    Wimpys Restaurant Marvelmania...

As much as we here in the US were spoiled by Marvel back in the 60's and 70's...I'm starting to find things that I wish we had here in the US. About 15 years ago I bought my first Wimpys Restaurant cards from a vendor at a local toy show. Since then I've been obsessed with making as many complete sets as possible just to show fellow collectors here in the US what we never got here in the US. Probably have 4 or 5 complete sets of these cards. Only 20 in the entire set. If I get the chance I will post a scan/pic of the sets. Anyway, about 10 years ago I had the opportunity to get an original poster that was meant to have all of the cards pasted to it by Wimpys. I don't know if it's a grail, but I have hard time finding another in the last 10 years. Here's a pic of the one in my collection. The art on the cards are by original marvel artists as is the poster and amalgam of the cards or stock art. Here is just one of the Marvelmania items we missed out on here in the US...unless there was a Wimpys Restaurant here in the US that I didn't know about:

"When not too many people can see we're all the same
And because of all their tears,
Their eyes can't hope to see
    The beauty that surrounds them
    Isn't it a pity".

I think you are mistaken about Wimpy Burger in the United States. They were originally opened in 1947 and closed in 1978.

If they are in better condition than this one I'd be interested in them.

This giveaway I think started in '79. As for the Wimpys here in the US...I never saw one here in New York. And we had all kinds of burger joints here. The one I loved was Wetsons. They had better burgers and firs than McDonalds or Burger King. Their restaurants looked very similar to Carvel Ice Cream shops. Carvel is probably another east coast thing...more so for the New York Tri-State area.

That poster is awesome. Most of the Wimpy restaurants near me closed down years ago... a few became Burger King places.

oh wow! LOVE seeing this kind of thing. thanks for sharing Roberto.

We have a chain of Wimpy Burgers up here in Canada, but I'll assume they are a completely different, unrelated chain?
