A new Spider-Man animated series will swing into Disney XD next year.
Announced this afternoon at New York Comic Con, “Marvel’s Spider-Man” will take the wall-crawler back to his early days, as a teenage superhero, no doubt to capitalize on the July arrival of “Spider-Man: Homecoming” in theaters.
“We’ve been secretly nurturing ‘Marvel’s Spider-Man’ for years now, so we are thrilled to finally announce it,” Cort Lane, senior vice president of Marvel Animation and Family Entertainment, said in a statement. “The simple title reflects a back-to-basics approach – the story of an ordinary teen, Peter Parker, who suddenly finds himself with strange new powers and overwhelming responsibility.
The current animated series, “Ultimate Spider-Man,” will conclude its four-season run in January with the two-part finale “Graduation Day,” which finds Peter Parker battling Doctor Octopus and the Sinister Six to save New York City.
