Agreed, Bat. I think we've seen enough black, rubber and armor on the batsuits that the viewing audience is ready for something fresh and new, even if fresh and new means going back to the Seventies. Give us Neal Adams' Batman on the big screen; a character who's lithe and agile enough that he doesn't have to weigh himself down with armor besides maybe Kevlar. Give us the dark gray and blue suit (trunks on the outside, please!) with the big billowing cape, the long slender ears, a facial opening big enough he could eat while in costume if he felt so inclined and, of course, those piercing white eyes, the eyes that betray nothing that's going on behind the mask, so an adversary doesn't have any notion if he's dealing with a expert combatant, a zealot or just a crazy-arsed mother f****r. Part of what has always given Batman his power is his anonymity and the fact that, although he's probably human, he might just as well sprout fangs and drain you of your blood, as well.
sigpic Oh then, what's this? Big flashy lighty thing, that's what brought me here! Big flashy lighty things have got me written all over them. Not actually. But give me time. And a crayon.

Bravo. Perfectly stated. Eventually, everything that was old becomes new again. The Batman has not been seen on the big screen, as a live-action character, in an accurate version of his comic book costume colors and configuration since the 1966 Batman film. About the only thing I would add to this statement is to...

      1) Make those blue costume parts very dark midnight blue (after all, this guy does still need to blend with shadows) ... but yes, BLUE. Some added color, however slight, will go a long way toward bringing back visual interest and "punch" to The Batman's costume.

      2) Bring back the yellow oval chest emblem. It's one of the few Frank Miller "off shoot" ideas added to The Batman mythology that I love: The notion that the yellow oval emblem (covering a protective armored plate over his heart) serves as a target for armed adversaries to shoot at in the dark, rather than his head.

      3) Give us a sleek, simple, clean utility belt that is ACTUALLY golden yellow... and one that does NOT look like it was dragged through the mud. The belt color was one of the few things done RIGHT on Michael Keaton's '89 Bat suit.

      4) Make the suit clean and pristine again. I don't know what genius decided that The Batman's costume should be in tatters and filthy, but it was NOT a good idea. No bueno. Me no like. No sir, I don't like it. The Batman's look is regal, elegant, stately, and Gothic... kinda like Darth Vader. When he trashes one bat-suit, he's got an armored vault full of identical replacements. I understand the costume betting beat to hell and looking weathered after COMING BACK from a mission, but there is no reason on God's Earth for The Batman to GO OUT on a mission looking like crap.

      5) Lengthen the ears on the cowl. I'm not talking Arkham video games length here). Just a nice medium length will be fine (Neal Adams, Brian Bolland, Alan Davis). Nice and razor-straight... no damn cutesy curves. Ears that are too short just do not say "BAT" to me. They say Adam West.

      6) emeraldknight47 already said it, but it bears repeating: Bring back the damn TRUNKS... (for BOTH Superman AND Batman)! Those two guys look ridiculously half-dressed right now! Superman's got some kind of bizzare remnant of his classic belt and buckle remaining on Henry Cavil's suit... and no justification for it. Before, with the red trunks... the belt (in whatever configuration it took) at least made sense. Now it does not. Same with The Batman. In the classic configuration, the utility belt visually "capped off" the trunks and broke up the otherwise drab outfit at the center in an interesting way. Now (without the trunks) the utility belt seems to just be... hanging there... floating. I honestly do not even mind if the approach that is taken is to darken the grey bodysuit's entire pelvic area in midnight dark blue (or in black if the cape, cowl, gloves and boots are black), and then create a sharp indication where the top of the legs begin at the hip in grey again. (Using just color contrasting) This would at least create the visual break that that costume so desperately needs right now, I think.

      7) Lighten up with the muscle padding on the Bat-suit! He's The Batman, NOT the Incredible Hulk! I will NEVER understand the logic of casting Ben Affleck (who physically resembles The Batman very much)... having him spend months in the gym body training to look his best in the role... and then covering him up in fake, distorted-looking, padded muscles that cancel out his natural look. Henry Cavill's suit has padding too, but at least his muscles look natural and subtle... a compliment to his natural physique. Ben Affleck just looked freakish in his suit. In some shots, his suit was so bulky (particularly around the upper chest and shoulders) that it looked as if he were wearing one of those Party City Batman Halloween costumes that kids wear with the fake, ill-fitting, foam rubber torso piece! Also, what's with the strange sags in the grey body suit in key places! Between the weird sags on the grey suit, it's unusual sheen, and its bulbous, swollen configuration, The Batman appeared to be wearing an inflated grey trash bag in some shots. And, again, by comparison, Superman's bodysuit was flawlessly executed. No weird sags or gaps. Make the Batman look strong, lithe and athletic again without making him gorilla-like.

      8) And lastly... FOR THE LOVE OF ALL THAT IS GOOD AND DECENT... BRING THE BAT SCALLOPS BACK TO THE DAMN BAT CAPE!! What's with this flat, straight bottom hem crap? He's The BATman!! His cape is supposed to look like Bat wings when he leaps into action. That's what Bob Kane and Bill Finger intended when they created him. And let the cape be worn the way it is supposed to be worn: covering his shoulders, and closed in front of him. This "superhero-esque" cape flipped back behind the shoulders exposing the barrel chest nonsense drives me nuts when it comes to The Batman... again, it just SCREAMS "Adam West". The Batman at his optimal presentation, is not really a classic, traditional, "superhero". He is a dark avenger of the night.

      My two cents.

Eh... Unless DC can drastically change course and right the ship, I have lost my ability to get worked up over any of this. If I want entertainment, I've a vast library of better Superhero fare to turn to. It's a shame, but what're you gonna do?
These aren't the droids you're looking for.. Move along.

I'm glad that's just a specialized tactical suit and not his general usage outfit... because one thing BvS did get right was the Bat suit. It was the best damn Bat suit out of any movie so far.
