Because he was at a different phase in his life than he was when he needed to aid in birthing new story ideas to keep the company where it needed to be... and because he never pigeonholed himself as a writer to begin with... he was much more than that.

Even if the scholars were one hundred percent correct in their findings, and if I'm following your take on this, this scenario still would NOT automatically eliminate Lee's claim that he was the primary source of the four main characters' "sensibilities interaction" dynamic... all it would prove would be cloning of plot beats. And the plot beats were nothing compared to the character story elements as far what changed the industry overnight.
