would you go buy your comics at Midnight?

looks like they are trending this way with more and more "Midnight" release parties at comic shops to stay ahead of the competition with these events (especially with common sellouts like DC Rebirth). Between the new #1 issues of every comic relaunching every year now, the hype of those new #1's and subsequent hype of selling out in advance for those with pull files when orders are allocated, this looks like it's the new trend cycle starting up.

I'm mostly a digital reader now, but in my younger days I have no doubt that I'd run out at midnight on a Tuesday if it meant I could get my stack earlier to read.

Would you leave the house at midnight to buy your comics? especially to avoid the sellouts the next day?

Back in my serious collecting days, definitely. These days, it would take something awfully interesting to get me to head to my LCS at midnight. 'Course, I'm usually up 'til at least three or four in the A.M. (thanks to working second shift), so it might be nice to actually have a LCS open when I get out of work...
sigpic Oh then, what's this? Big flashy lighty thing, that's what brought me here! Big flashy lighty things have got me written all over them. Not actually. But give me time. And a crayon.

Maybe? I am up late on weekends so probably would go once in a while. Kind of bums me out when the comic shop is slow because I've seen so many cool stores close down.

I don't read comics anymore, because mostly they suck. But I'd be all for getting them a few hours early, at a late night comic store party!

If I remember in order to get your comics on Tuesday you had to have more than 2 stores and order a huge amount monthly. Usually they showed up Wednesday mid-morning and by Wednesday afternoon we would have them ready. I sure as heck would HATE to be the one to stay open till about 12:30-1:00am for just a few customers to get there comics a few hours early.

It's a marketing tool but not anything that I feel personally inclined to jump on. Now if everything in the store was massively discounted, they might get me in there for the vintage toys.

Both the LCS locations I frequent are in sketchy parts of town. If I need brightly-colored toilet paper at midnight I just go to Meijer which is in a safer, closer location relative to me.

If it was a title I absolutely wanted, then yeah, I'd attend a midnight opening.

from my understanding of how things have worked with LCS' in the past few years, they all generally get their shipments on Tuesday anyways to try and avoid any issues with Wednesday releases. Many will at least unbox and rack their comics in prep for Wednesday new release day, but they are forbidden to sell them. Often "secret shoppers" will be sent to their store to try and purchase Wednesday comics ahead of time on Tuesday, which is Diamond's method of policing this policy. I've been told by local comic shop owners and employees that these secret shoppers are always easy to spot and almost comically out of their element in the store since they appear to have no knowledge of comics in general and are simply following instructions to go to a store and try to purchase a particular issue off the racks.

I keep forgetting how fortunate I am and how I take comic shops for granted. I moved out of the Big Bad City and even now I have a comic shop right across the street from me.

Someone just gave me a statistic... there are 350 Diamond accounts in Southern Ontario, most of them centred around the Greater Toronto Area. There are some US states with less than ten.
