    Favourite Era of Teen Titans?

So I have no doubt that many of us will say the George Perez and Marv Wolfman run, but for you, when did they hit their stride on the title? Was there a point on that run where you think they jumped the shark?

for me it's all about the Doom Patrol storyline. They had hinted at it when Gar went after Terminator on his own, but I think they really were hitting all the right notes by the second year of the title.

the fact that they managed to sustain the quality on the title for so many years was astonishing, to me it pretty much culminated at the Judas Contract, although I think the Terror of Trigon was pretty epic as well. After the departure of Perez, it definitely lost some magic for me. It's why I generally don't have much love for disco Nightwing. While it promised a cool character evolution, Grayson's stint as Nightwing didn't really interest me until he split from the Titans and Chuck Dixon started writing him.

runner up for me is Geoff John's run on Teen Titans.

and I think the entire run is really excellent, but I think he really came into his own on the title with the line-up that included Kid Devil, Ravager and Miss Martian.

To me it seemed the New TT ran out of steam following the wedding issue for Donna and Terry. There was good stuff after that, but nothing great to my mind other than the Trigon story you mentioned. I stopped buying altogether during the Wildebeest storyline.

I'd have to agree about the Doom Patrol story, too. The title was good leading up to that, but as you mentioned, it seemed all the characters locked into their roles at that point. Really liked the Day in the life story with Wally's letter.

I liked the version with the Atom in the 1990s by Jurgens, I think. But, Johns' version was probably next for me.

I love the Nick Cardy art on the early issues of the first run, but the stories are so dated at this point. I never read Peter David's Young Justice run, but I understand that it's good.

The book became essential for me from about issue 16 onwards. Great stories like the Brother Blood arc, then the Blackfire issues and onwards to the introduction of Terra... then right into volume 2 with the Trigon arc.
That was definitely my favourite period for The New Teen Titans.

Believe it or not, my favorite era was the original run, with highlight being the new costume for Wonder Girl. And I liked that really weird revival era in the 70s by Bob Rozakis...Mal as the Guardian, Joker's Daughter, Bumblebee...a lot of that coming back into play in various ways.
As far as the NTT, it was good up until the Donna Troy wedding which I did (and still do) hate. Was that just around the time it split into two books, direct & newsstand?
I left for awhile, came back for the Wildebeest Titans Hunt, then left again. Never got into any of the further revivals.

I don't have kids...so this is what it must be like trying to pick your favorite one?? It's really tough for me. The Cardy Teen Titans has that "growing up" feel to it which has it's own appeal. On the other hand the Perez/Wolfman stuff has that "hey, we're not those kids anymore" feel to it which led to more involved stories/plots. Can't pick a favorite...so they are both my favorite Titans era

And because of all their tears,
Their eyes can't hope to see
            The beauty that surrounds them
            Isn't it a pity".

My First Titans memory is the 70s era with Joker's Daughter, Titans West, Bumblebee, etc. Just had a couple issues, back before I followed a book regularly, just bought a comic if it looked good. I did get into NTT when I found a few issues in Brooksville at the 7-11 by my Grandma's house. The good old days when you had to find out about stuff on your own.

I initially remember the Titans being split into two divisions - Titans East and West. It kind of felt like the younger generations' version of the Justice League. Those were fun stories for me as a kid.

But by the time the 80's were rolling around Marv Wolfman and George Perez rebuilt the team as the New Teen Titans and gave a whole generation of fans something very memorable to follow. As a young, inspired artist I was amazed at the talents of Perez. He had such a gift for composition on a vast scale. He could place so much detail into one page it was often mind boggling to see the degree in which he could stretch those limits and still allow the action within that panel to make total sense. Just a tremendous talent.

I love the cover of Garth slugging Robin

I actually don't think I've read any Teen Titans issues. I wouldnt mind going through some of the early bronze age run.

That is my all time favorite cover ever, Teen Titans #23! I think it's just one of the most perfectly designed of all time.
One of my biggest regrets was never getting Nick Cardy to sign it, it just never happened even though I tried.

Favorite era: The original Haney/Cardy run, up to when they decided to kick Haney off and go relevant, and then the New Teen Titans of course!

Two of my favorite covers from my favorite eras:

I wrote an article for Back Issue on Titans West. Lots of vague plans for a spin-off title/revival of the concept in the late 80s, but they went forward with Titans Hunt and those spin-offs instead.

My pal Ryan had me as one of three guests on his Secret Origins discussing the Titans history from SO Annual #3:

And I can't recommend the podcast, Teen Titans Wasteland enough. Hub (who was also on that Secret Origins episode) and his brother have fun drinking and disecting the original run of Titans comics. It's a hilarious time.

In which our intrepid heroes (Hub and Cory) endeavor to read and discuss the 1970's series The Champions, and indulge in many digressions along the way. Join us, won't you?
