Well I went this morning, shop was small, I looked for a couple old issues I wanted but they didn't have, I don't read any current stuff and their website said vintage toys but the most vintage thing I saw was a playmates STNG 8" Riker figure.
The stormtroopers were running late so I didn't see them but I did see the overweight guy standing by the road dressed as superman complete with molded plastic hair piece holding a free comic day sign.
I did stop at the dusty antique mall on the way home and scored a vintage fisher price little people family farm playset almost complete, just needs the tractor and hay trailer. cleaned up super nice
And I did get a few free comics

Totally cool - that was my daughters first pick! She hasn't read it yet but she is going to flip for the wondergirl outfit story.

Dr. Comics & Mr. Games and the Collector's Corner on Piedmont Ave. here in Oakland didn't have any guys dressed like superheroes or face painting. But I did get my 5 freebies: Gumby, Jughead, Gyro Gearloose, and 2 for my friend The Falcon Superman and The Hulk/IronMan combo. I didn't buy anything, though. They didn't have the stock of T-shirts they normally have. No Wacky Packages trading cards. And I don't really buy modern comics too often. The don't have that old-style comic book quality. The CGI kinda ruins it for me. But while I was there, I did happen to see the Star Trek EMCEs, (Spock, McCoy, Andorian). I asked one of the employees how they were selling. He said they're quite popular and they'll be ordering more, (there was only 1 of each left). YAY!

Ditto not only did my son request that one, he knew the name, which blew me away. I really enjoyed reading it with him tonight.

MUCH better than the DC zero Daddy bought.

^^^ Wow, I know how you feel, I'd have to drive to Fantasy Factory in Lakeland. Luckily the former Winter Haven comic guy is doing mail order. He's pulling copies of the FCBD stuff I want.

thunderbolt and spockfan74.... I pick up my comics once a month in Sarasota. It's a nice drive and I plan the Saturday around doing stuff, like going to TRU, Best Buy, Target, Sweet Tomatoes, pretty much any place that's not too close to me.

It makes the trip not as bad.

And I make sure to schedule it so my regular monthly pick up always arrives on Free Comic Day

Sarasota's too far for me. I get stuff from the guy that used to run Down Town Comics. He moved to SC.

I go to "Pops Comics and Games" on Tamiami Trail, a few blocks from the Best Buy. It's where I have my subscription. They've changed ownership in the last year, but things seem to be steady. I also check out Dark Side Comics on washington blvd, pretty much take Tamiami north from Pops for a few miles and it's there.

Sarasota's only 1.75 hrs away from me, where as Winter Haven is about 1.5 hrs... and we usually make a day of it.

Pops had a big tent outside with the free books to prevent congestion INSIDE the store for the regulars, as well as a 50 off bak issue sale.

Dark Side had a sale too, and the 501 Storm Troopers.
