Probably until the early 90's, I used to think Magneto and the Brotherhood were supposed to be stand-ins for fascism. Even in storylines like Acts of Vengeance where he takes out Red Skull, the whole Homo Superior vibe is still strong. So was it the movies that watered it down or did it occur in the late 90's when I stopped reading Marvel?

it is fascinating how the Lee/Kirby run really evoked the Nazis with Magneto's earliest attempts at conquest and having Homo Superior lording over Homo Sapiens. Magneto was never identified as being jewish nor a concentration camp survivor until Claremont's run correct? seems a weird way to overcompensate, but it did make him a much more dimensional character in a hit you over the head 80's style.
Was it established that Magneto and Xavier were friends before 161?Comment
