Looks like the stand alone DC JL film directors are bailing...
It would be like asking Rob Zombie to do a Bambi film. He would only do it if he could show his parents being slayed in graphic detail. That pretty well sums up Snyder. Watching his films is an endurance contest.
But even they couldn't deny the tepid responses from both general audiences and diehard comic fans. The question is: is this a good enough foundation to launch an entire franchise?

...is the question at hand, then how is this:

....still an issue being discussed?
People aren't complete morons---they know BvS made money. It's "critic-proof"...right?
Get your head out of Superman's "S" you guys at Superman Homepage.
"No. No no no no no no. You done got me talkin' politics. I didn't wanna'. Like I said y'all, I'm just happy to be alive. I think I'll scoot over here right by this winda', let this beautiful carriage rock me to sleep, and dream about how lucky I am." - Chris Mannix
Promotions/Advertising is normally equal to budget. So, black doesn't start until around 450m, depending on how much they banked from product placement.
MOS got 150million from the US Army alone. I didn't see anything like that for BvS.

Is there any way to know if WB got any financial backing for this film from exclusive endorsement rights or something that would take the load off their books? I ask that because it seem like they kept spending on this project without looking at the bottom line. So I wonder how much was their money versus money collected from other deals. I would be willing to bank they collected some kind of funding for the Justice League since that seem to be in place before BVS opened.

The big ones were Jeep and Turkish Airlines. Jeep was overt and included a new Renegade. Turkish Air supposedly dropped over ten million. Samsung was also big as their phone was the focal point of Wayne and Gadot's secret missions. There was another car one....was there a Ford Mustang or Dodge Charger in the shipyard battle?
My thought on Batman v Superman is that it's the world's most successful box office bomb.
The worst part is WB doesn't seem to understand the bulk of it's money came from people not knowing what it was that first weekend. I was VERY familiar with Zach Snyder so I had no interest. When Justice League comes out, I will have the same disinterest because it will be just another convoluted story that is more an endurance contest with Watchmen style characters dressed as popular superheroes. Only the next time the general public will know this as well and likely listen if the critics stone it.
I kind of view the DCMU as fixable, they've generally got good leads who can act. Make Superman smile more, Batman seems to be right, a little more humour, make them good. It's not hard.

I wish I shared your optimism, but after watching how well Civil War was put together, I have my doubts. The difference between Civil War and BvS could not possibly be more stark (no pun intended). Marvel managed to make a superhero movie that is exciting with complex characters and thoughtful conflict, while at the same time having respect for comics. I still think a huge part of WB's problem with their movies is that they are ashamed of comic books and obsessed with making their characters more adult without fully grasping that adult doesn't just mean making the colors darker, the characters nasty, cruel, and unlikable, and turning the violence/murder level up to 11.
Oh I agree that a tonal change is in order perhaps I over simplified the matter.
I don't think you did, really, but what's crazy to me is how great the Justice League Unlimited stuff is and how bad the major DC movies have been. Maybe it's because there's less money at stake with "a kiddy cartoon", so WB executives didn't meddle too much, but some of the JLU stuff would translate well to big screen live action.
Affleck is now EP on JL. Are the suits seeing the light with Snyder and finding a new guiding hand for the DCU?
Glad he's taking a position of more influence and power...about damn bloody time.
Affleck's stand alone Batman is going to friggin rock...dude can direct...way more talented than Snyder by several thousand miles...Affleck is also a true comic book fan...he's DC's only hope...our only hope
