Cooke and Doc Shaner together on a book is a dream team for me. The rest of is garbage and will end up looking dated in just a couple years.
It looks dated now. If you pulled that Scooby cover out of a back issue bin, I'd have just assumed Wildstorm did some forgotten Scooby revamp in the 90s, back in their Image days...where I wish they had stayed.
^Amanda Connor knows how to draw adorable women. She was a guest at the comic shop I worked at in college. She also happens to be super-nice and very down to Earth!
The Scooby thing just sounds like bad fan fiction. Shaggy is too wussy for tattoos,
I'd say FRED is the square who wouldn't have tattoos while Shaggy is the "freak" outsider who could feasibly get tats to "Make a statement, man".

Velma is just weirdly redesigned- isn't she supposed to be kinda cute under that nerdy look?
Don't know the original Hanna-Barbera (or later iteration's) "Velma visage" intent, but, that aside, IMHO that Jim Lee cover Velma looks cuter than any HB design I've ever seen.

And what's with Scooby's tech stuff?
Tech for solving mysteries?
Seems appropriate, if not pricey, for a bunch of teenage detectives.
Maybe Tony Stark is financing them?

^^^ He meant Shaggy's to fraidy cat to get tats done. Its out of character for him, unless Velma got him really drunk first. The whole update is just ridiculous and plain old embarrassing for DC.

Fred never struck me as square. At any rate, the Shaggy redesign is overworked to the point of caricature. Isn't Shaggy more of a slacker than a hipster?
WANTED: Dick Grayson SI trousers; gray AJ Mustang horse; vintage RC Batman (Bruce Wayne) head; minty Wolfman tights; mint Black Knight sword; minty Launcelot boots; Lion Rock (pale) Dracula & Mummy heads; Lion Rock Franky squared boots; Wayne Foundation blue furniture; Flash Gordon/Ming (10") unbroken holsters; CHiPs gloved arms; POTA T2 tan body; CTVT/vintage Friar Tuck robes, BBP TZ Burgess Meredith glasses.
Also:
To use (the original Scooby inspiration) "Dobie Gillis" parallels to ponder on both Fred AND Shaggy character traits....

Well, by that particular logic, hipsters "play act" and tattoos are permanent... something slackers (not the posuer/mocker hipsters) would be more in synch with. I'm fine with saying that Jim Lee Shaggy pic depicts a slacker just as easily as it would a hipster--- and I'd just take the tats as natural extensions then.
Slackers are definitely a more acceptable template for the Shaggy characterization, and I'm including a little compare/contrast below to illustrate:
Shaggy's inspiration "Maynard" from the Dobey Gillis TV show was a sterotypical "beatnik". Beatniks are quite indistinguishable from 90's slackers.
Shaggy/Maynard Krebs = (from Wiki "beatnik") drug use, pseudo-intellectualism, and a cartoonish depiction of real-life people along with the spiritual quest of Jack Kerouac's autobiographical fiction.
Add to that, that Maynard's friend Dobey was the "yin" to Maynard's "yang"...
Fred/Dobey Gillis = unlike Maynard, Dobey "pursued romance, recognized authority figures, and embraced a stereotypical work ethic"---- to me that constitutes "square" or, at least decisively more mainstream than Maynard/Shaggy.
