DC recasting the Flash for films is STOOOPID...

I'm just waiting for Hector to weigh in on this.

With Superman...while I was a fan of Smallville, and wouldn't have minded if the cast carried on into the movie series, I understand it. But Flash ISN'T a household name like Superman. To me, since he's not omnipresent like Supes or Bats, you shouldn't have live action versions competing for the general audience's attention.

As dull as he may have been, you have to admit that Smallville was better than any of the Superman reboots. Those are just awful.

I personally can't admit that, I didn't really like Smallville. I tried and tried but it never took, partly because I found Welling drab but also, it wouldn't commit to being Superman.

Man of Steel was needlessly convoluted and the Super angst was dumb but at least it was Superman.

That's why I like the Flash series, sure it has all the romantic sub plots and emo nonsense that Smallville did but it also features a lead who puts the costume on and is a Superhero. It works!

^I liked Smallville at the time, but I think the Flash and even Arrow have pointed out Smallville's weak points. The current shows manage to move forward and shake up the status quo just enough to not seem stagnant and infuriating. Last night's Flash shook things up once again. It took Smallville 8 seasons to actually change anything.

Flash and Arrow are MILES ahead of Smallville. All I am saying is how many times have they tried to reboot Supes and it has failed. You had a built in audience with the show...common sense would have said take the cast and put them in a movie and see what happens. Not spend millions upon millions and get drek out of it in the end. They probably could have done the reboots for a 1/4 of what the spent and in the process see if it worked. These reboots haven't in my opinion. Again, it is about consistency. Why there are two different versions of the characters is just idiotic in my opinion. The only way it works, in my opinion, is if you say that these are 2 different realities and DC/Warner hasn't said that at all...except in the TV series that they have done so far. I'm loving the TV stuff that DC is doing on TV because it falls right in my wheelhouse of Earth 2. I would rather see an Infinity Inc movie then see the JLA...especially with the cast that was shown last night in the special. Again, as awful as Joker looks in Suicide Squad...that looks better than what this Batman Vs Superman looks like. That's not saying much either. All that being said I can't wait until Thursday for Legends Of Tomorrow. Probably going to top Flash and Arrow in my opinion.

As a lifelong Superman fan, I found him duller than dishwater and the last thing I wanted was a Smallville movie.

I'm sure you are sick to death of me saying this (it's okay, you can say it, lol)...but Tom Welling sucks...and all the Smallville master prints should be burned into a crisp...the worst so called "Superman" production of all times. I'd rather watch Turkish, Indian, and Filipino Superman on YouTube. Heck, I despise Paul Blart: Mall Cop, but I rather watch that again than one second of Smallville...

I'm assuming the studios are looking to eventually make a stand alone Flash film which likely means they do not want to involve an actor playing that hero that people watch for free every week competing with a massive big budget film that people will need to pay to enjoy. So I'm confident they want some disassociation to the show so people don't feel like they are paying to see an extra long episode of the same thing with a bigger budget. Having said that, it would have been cool to see Grant Gustin in a big budget film. I would have liked it allot.

It's all about fifedoms. WB allowed DC rights to be splintered into pieces for decades. That why Hal Jordan was never on a Dini/Timm cartoon. Joel Silver had the rights and refused usage.

The Nolan-era management tried to corral all the rights back for Legendary and Nolan/Goyer, before the WB/Legendary blowout.

The current WB team was originally going to make a unified DCU, so the Arrow/Flash producers were under the guise they were apart of Man Of Steel and whatever else. But the main WB guy freaked at how long it would take to develop the architecture and lay the foundation. The film people wanted control of the tv product, but Arrow was already established and the CW/Turner people don't feel their subservient to the film division.

Geoff Johns then pitched multiversity as the unified theory of DC media. So if people like CW Flash more, he could theoretically replace Movie Flash. But when Affleck and Ratner took over BvS, rewriting that into Dawn along with Justice League's massive reworking, they disconnected DC cinema and turned the other divisions into pseudo promotional arms.

That hasn't sat well with CW, who is now trying to amass every DC show into a shared universe. If they get their way, they'll have Supergirl next year and tie-in Gotham. This way, by the time the next WB DC movies arrive, DC will hopefully own two whole primetime nights on CW. That amount of material makes them as important to WB as it's annually growing revenue.

To me, it's all moot if BvS does an Ultron; good numbers, meh response. It will show WB cannot really capitilze on the IP value, and the market price for the division will be valued at minimum four billion. If Civil War tops BvS, which I think it will, I'm betting WB gets broken into pieces or acquired by Legendary/Wanda.

Since CBS and THE CW are sort of siblings, I could see The CW acquiring Supergirl, but I'm not so sure about Gotham. Gotham, even though it's a show based on the beginnings of a comic book character, has a very different and far more violent vibe than anything on The CW. Plus, I can't see Fox willing to give Gotham up as it does fairly well for them in the ratings field.

I definitely agree that if BvS gets it butt handed to it by CA:CW, I have a feeling that WB would suffer a fate similar to the one you described.
