I'm guessing that WB/DC must want to desaturate or mute the colors in their movies (the exception being SUICIDE SQUAD from what I've seen of it) to, again, make it all more "real" and "grounded." I think you have Chris Nolan (a fine director, mind you) to "thank" for the overall muted palette that is/will be predominant in the DC universe movies. The technique worked for Nolan's Dark Knight trilogy, so I'm guessing some suits at WB said "Hey, let's make ALL our comics adaptation dark and moody. Zack Snyder just took that edict and rolled with it on MOS and evidently on BvS and WW as well. I think that all the suits and corporate types at both WB and DC have forgotten that comic book characters and their adventures are meant to be little outlandish and colorful (not like Joel Schumacher outlandish and colorful) and let the readers escape reality rather than smack you in the face with it. I think one of the reasons MARVEL's CU has done so well is that MARVEL STUDIOS, DISNEY and everyone else involved know that comic book movies should be, if nothing else, colorful, escapist romps. Granted CA: TWS's color palette was muted down just a bit, but it worked well for the story told as it was meant to be filtered through the lens of a 70's spy/action/adventure movie.
sigpic Oh then, what's this? Big flashy lighty thing, that's what brought me here! Big flashy lighty things have got me written all over them. Not actually. But give me time. And a crayon.

Nolan's imprint is still being felt in these films for sure, even though he is no longer involved. As much as I enjoy Begins and Dark Knight (Rises...not so much), I think they pushed the realism factor about as far as you can go, when you have grown men running about in capes. It's why I wish DC in all media would just lighten up and have some fun, both figuratively, and literally, as far as palette goes.

"Grounded in Reality" just do not go with a man dressed as a Bat, an alien demi-god and an Amazon that is another demi-god.
