Get ready to FLAME ON me, lol...

I already let out the secret in the 'Your predictions on the superhero blockbuster films of 2016' thread...but I'd figured it deserved its own thread.

Just Redbox rented the new Fantastic Four movie...

    ...and guess what...

    ...I kinda liked it...

    Okay, start flaming me...

I can't lay flame to you on this count, Hec. There are way too many movies that I watch and enjoy even though they got crappy word of mouth and lousy reviews. I think watching any movie and what YOU get out of it personally are completely subjective , so even though 90% of people say something may suck, you can watch it and actually enjoy it.

The new Fantastic Four are not the true Fantastic Four of course...and if you ever decide to watch it...don't watch it thinking it as a Marvel Comics Fantastic Four flick, because it's obviously not, not even close.

But as a stand alone pure science fiction movie, it worked for me. You can see elements of David Cronenberg here (admitted and confirmed by Josh Trank)...and since I'm a fan of his...I bought it...almost really feels like his Fly film with Jeff Goldblum...it does have that feel.

Does it have dumb illogical elements? Of course it does, in spades in fact...especially when they disobey the structured high command...being told to step aside...and let NASA astronauts take over...but noooooooo...temper tantrum millennials just can't go by that...decide to go on their own...and consequently, all hell breaks loose...typical stupid teens, lol.

      Don't get me wrong...this was no 2001: A Space Oddyssey...but it was a decent rental, that's all...

Please. This is a site for men who play with dollies. No judging here. You're more than welcome to like what you like. I'm a firm believer in timing is everything too. Mood and circumstance play a huge role in how we respond to films we take in. Actually, you're making me want to check it out. Too many people are contrarian so they can rip things apart on the internet. I like the idea of being contrarian to praise something that has taken a beating. I think it's cool that you liked it, Hec. Doesn't mean I will, but I may give it a try.

It's not Battlefield Earth bad, but Fant4stic strayed soo far from the source material and had heavy post- production editing which is why it got roosted my critics and audiences alike. If this was made 20 years ago it wouldn't have been an outrage but when you have 5 Comic movies a year the bar has been raised.

Not a great film but any standard but as a TV Pilot or compared to a double episode of Agents of Shield its not a huge disappointment.

If I find it in the $7.50 Bluray bin at Wal-Mart or for 6 bucks at BUYBACKS, I'll likely check it out. Or, speaking of checking it out, I may just wait for my library to get a copy and then I can watch it scott free.

if it shows up on Netflix or some streaming service I have, then I'd give it a watch, or at least try to watch it. My understanding is it starts off as a decent sci-fi flick with little to no connection to classic FF, but then half way through, the studio interfered, and the director's vision is compromised, making it truly neither fish nor fowl.
