Jackman played the part perfect, I think that Chris Benoit would have been the best choice though, he's short, long arms mean as hell, and most of all
HE's CANADIAN! I remember seeing him for the first time and thought "Damn that dude IS Wolverine!"
I think Hugh was perfect man, actually everybody in the X-men movie except Magneto were dead on for me,not that Ian wasn't good, but he just doesn't look like a Magneto to me,perfect Gandalf though
Jackman is so good that I have a hard time picturing someone else in the part. If he wasn't going to play Wolverine, I think they'd have to relaunch the series, but wait a few years to help distance the movie from his performance.
Yeah after seeing him being all wishy-washy on Desperate Housewives this past year, I can't see him as Wolverine.
I'm sure people could say the same thing about Hugh Jackman if they only saw him in his performances in musical theatre. Or the oddball time-travelling romantic comedy Kate and Leopold.
I think Jackman really pulls off the role with his charisma and acting ability, but there is a part of me that thinks he's too tall and a bit too much of a pretty-boy to be the Wolverine I see in my head (mostly the way Byrne drew him). Darick Robertson and Greg Rucka ran into some editorial back and forth around the time when they launched their Wolverine series because they envisioned him more Squat, Ugly and Hairy, and Marvel at that time wanted to make him more like Hugh Jackman.
