    Star Wars TFA adaption?

I've just realized I haven't heard a thing about Marvel adapting Ep. VII. Do the big guys no longer adapt films into comics? They were one of my favorite things growing up. Is the disappearance due to the availability of films for home entertainment now? Thoughts?

I think they learned their lesson back in the day when one of the comics was released prior to the premiere of one of the original trilogy movies and the mainstream media picked up on many spoilers. I recall Mark Hamill was furious at one radio announcer who was reading the comic to his listenership on air?

Why introduce more potential leaks by giving the script to a third party. Also given the lead time needed to produce a comic, and thanks to digital and the increasingly smaller windows you can have to complete a film and mass release, it might even be a completely different movie by the time the movie is locked and the comic completed. From what the screenwriters and JJ Abrams have said, this seems to be the case with the evolving script of Force Awakens.

Keep in mind, when we were kids, the comic adaptation (and novel and record) was one of the few ways we could relive the films over and over again prior to home video or pay TV and the large windows of time between those releases. Nowadays, you can pretty much go home and download the movie after you see it int the theatre to relive it if you were so inclined.

Nowadays, the tie-in comics are generally "Prequels".

    for example:
Shattered Empire which begins immediately following Return of the Jedi was heavily marketed as filling in some of the blanks between Return of the Jedi and Force Awakens. It starred newly introduced characters, so I felt it was more nominal than they promoted.

Prior to the release of Jessica Jones, there was a comic leading into the Netflix series, tying her into the Daredevil TV show continuity.

and they just released a prequel comic bridging the gap between Avengers Age of Ultron and Captain America Civil War.

I understand delaying the release to prevent story leaks before the films premiere but this won't be out until after the movie comes out on Blu-ray/DVD. I wonder if it will contain material deleted from the film.
