It doesn't matter if He dies, leaves, becomes a new God, or becomes insane....Bruce Wayne IS Batman! It's not a Costume...the tramatic events in His life made Him Batman! There is no Bruce wayne...that's the real Mask! Why doesn't Morrison get that?????????

I liked Morrison's runs on Doom Patrol, Animal Man, JLA, New X-Men for example, so I'm willing to give him the benefit of the doubt with this one. I mean, he brought back the outdated concept of the Club of Heroes last year and it worked. But I can see where the skepticism comes in....his Seven Soldiers epic series of mini-series was a little all over the place. Some were goods reads and some were, ennh. This whole Batman thing ties in a little bit to what's going to happen in Final Crisis I believe so hopefully the cosmic scope of that doesn't screw up Batman too bad. And if not Morrison, then someone will come along eventually to "fix" things the way they were. At least that's the way it usually goes in comics.

And whatever does happen to Bats, I'm still thinking it'll make more sense that what happened to ol' Spidey and Mary Jane....

            Hmmmm....

Bruce is gonna lose the cowl.... AGAIN. And the tradition of the superhero non-event continues full swing....

            >create new interesting characters and villians for the heros to fight. give them strong villians to fight.

You've hit on EXACTLY the problem with superheroes since the late 80's. Superhero books are PERPETUAL books. DC will publish Batman as long as people buy it. There's no end, there's no major developments; Batman (and most superheroes) is an icon mostly 'cos of this. There's no literary or continuity reason why you can't have superheroes age, die, change....

....but what happened in the late 80's is you had a lot of fans who kept reading WAY past the point it was assumed fans stopped reading. (That being threee years.) So how do you keep this new kind of fan; who's older, more mature, and has pretty much seen it all; amused? You try shaking things up. You try for more depth and development. And it all fails 'cos ultimately your book is perpetual and you CAN'T change anything. Development and depth REQUIRE change.

The RIGHT answer is to put your effort into the bad guys. THEY can change, develop, die. Superhero books work as long as you keep coming up with interesting BAD guys! But nobody does that. I guess they don't teach that sort of thing in creative writing class.

Bet this same outrage would have went on in the 80's if there was a MM over Barry Allen getting the axe.

                Bruce falls in love

Bruce quits being Batman as his inner turmoil is finally eased

Someone (who gives a crap who) takes over the cape and cowl

Bruce gets married and has a kid

Bruce takes them both to a show in Gotham City

They get killed at 10:47 pm in front of his eyes

He becomes Batman again (with an extended series just on how that happens)

We all forget any of this happened when they reset some sort of Easy Button at DC HQ, but not before the Graphic Novels hit the shelves

Very true! I've always said a hero is only as interesting as his villains. If the villain is a real threat (like The Joker can be....not The Ventriloquist!), the hero only has to strive harder to defeat him....making him more of a hero in the process.

I actually liked the last few issues where they tied into that old story "Robin Dies at Dawn"...but honestly this sounds like either Knightfall or Prodigal all over again. I really enjoyed Morrison's JLA and his All-Star Supes, but other than the "Club of Heroes" arc, his Batman hasn't done a whole lot for me.

I'm just afraid he'll stick his pet creation Damian in the cowl, and I can't stand that character in the least. Plus that will just be like Azrael as Batman, the violent nutcase takes over.

And aren't him and Tim a bit young to be BatMAN?

I wonder if they have taken into consideration the fact that writing comics for a more mature audience means that the average age of comic readers continues to climb because they are not adding readers on the younger end of the scale. This means that the average readership has read comics for a longer period of time. This also means that most comic readers remember the craptastic ideas you are trying to recycle and float out when they were new craptastic ideas. Nostalgia is the only way recycling of ideas works, and no one has nostalgia for crap like "Knightfall".

It's just another case of another writer thinking that they can "revitalize" a character by placing a costume on their own pet creation. They never seem to realize that the costume does not invest a new character with years of tradition, story depth, and reader loyalty. But if you ask them they will tell you the cause of the steady decline of readership and sales are due to the Internet and gaming consoles.

Mr. Morrision? Frank Miller is on line 1 to congratulate you on penning another "wonderful" Batman arc, and would like to talk about getting your help on the upcoming "Spirit" film...

Bingo! Exactly! It seems many writers want to write about the inner turmoil and anguish of Bruce's tormented life......That's just a piece of the cake. Batman is a Brilliant Detective and scientist who solves crimes too difficult for the Police department. Villans are the key to Batman's success. He clearly has a great rogues gallery to use.....also Batman is a reflection of his times and I see the current writers are out of tune with the character.....

U-HUH. It would be a fresh start, considering Spidey & his cast Doesn't remember the Last 30yrs.
