Challenge followed closely by (and I know) the Wendy and Marvin years, I was four when that came out and I still think of that when I see it. Even though it's kind of hard to watch, I just plowed through that DVD with my kids this summer.

no shame in that, I watched it last October. I was surprised that the social commentary was so heavy for a kids show. One of my favorite vintage items is the Lunchbox.
Challenge is my favorite overall, but the next season, The World's Greatest Super Friends has my absolute favorite of all SF episodes, "Universe of Evil". Plus there's the Frankenstein, Middle Earth, Camelot and Oz episodes that I really enjoyed as well.
I kind of think of Super Powers as another animal all together. "The Fear" is an astoundingly good episode...Super Friends grown up, but still kid-friendly.
I love them all. Nothing but love for EVERY season. I like Challenge the best of course but my favorite episodes were "Fear" and "The Death of Superman" which came at the end of the series.
My least favorite season was the one with Darkseid in every single one. It was overdone. I used to be able to do a pretty decent Darkseid impression but it hurts my throat these days.
Challenge, World's Greatest and the two Super Powers seasons. The only thing that knocked the SP seasons down a notch for me was Shannon Farnon being replaced as Wonder Woman, particularly the "legendary" version as they were still using the Alex Toth designs and I didn't care for the WW voice actress. The final season where they moved to Garcia-Lopez designs and BJ Ward took over was a great way to close.
I didn't realize how big of influence Galactic had until I watched it again with my kids. That really is the template for Darkseid more so than Kirby's books.
I'm a big fan of them all, the Super Friends were my favorite for as long as I can remember watching t.v. I still watch the dvds I have of some of them, I want to get the rest eventually.
"The Fear" is probably the best SF episode ever made.
I totally agree on this being the best episode. The Death of Superman episode from that same season I believe is also very good, taking its cue from the imaginary story in Superman 149 and then in my opinion influencing The Death of Superman storyline in the 1990s at least a little bit.
But my favorite has to be Challenge of episodes. Just seeing all those heroes and villain in a cartoon was a dream come true. I wasn't old enough to see the Filmation DC toons of the 60s, until they came out of video when I was in college.
Like Chris, I like the "Literature" adaptions from one of the seasons. Those were entertaining.
I also like the Green Arrow episode from the first season with the creepy doctor who reminded me a little of Peter Lorre. He shrunk and trapped the Super Friends in jars, which had to have been influenced by Bride of Frankenstein.
