I think this may have the same freedom/appeal that Guardians had. It is not as widely known even within the nerd crowd, preventing it from from sacrosanct. And the general public can be introduced to them in any way the creators want. I don't think it will have the success of Guardians, but it may do OK for DC.

I doesn't look like a bad movie, and honestly the Joker doesn't look as ridiculous on film, versus a still photo...but still isn't overly appealing to me much. They did name-drop Superman, on top of seeing Batman, so you definitely get the feeling WB finally woke up and got a plan...even if the tone isn't to my liking, overall.

I bet Batman is in the very beginning and captures the Joker. That's how he gets put on the squad. No more Bats after that is my guess.Comment

Between this trailer and BvS, it's obvious that the entire cinematic DCU is going to be relentlessly dark. Even Aquaman looks scary. These are supposed to be the good guys right? In trying to be "different" they are making a HUGE mistake IMO.
They look and feel totally devoid of any of the light-hearted, escapist fun of the MCU.
Kids and adults can watch Ant-Man and enjoy it. The same cannot be said for BvS, and Suicide Squad? No way.
DC is talking these movies way too seriously. They need to lighten up.Comment

^I agree overall. I WISH they weren't all going in this direction. I do feel better about BvS after the last trailer, because there is potential for some lightening up after all this darkness...moving on from it, in other words. Whether they chose to do it or not is anyone's guess at this point.

The best selling and most popular DC products are the games, which are as downbeat as Nolan's movies but have a helluva lot more action. That's what WB is aiming for.
Consider Begins is tens years old already. DC is looking at Marvel's main demo of 8+ y/o boys starting with Iron Man and seeing how they're not going to be enthused by Ant-Man, GoTG2, Ultron-crap, in their teens. I think Marvel knows this, too, and they're trying to find a Empire-like sweet spot of heavy but not pessimistic. I mean, Cap dies in Civil War; How light-hearted can that be portrayed without undermining the entire plot?Comment

You know, when I first saw the "Strings" trailer for Avengers2, I was worried they'd go dark and lose their way. Boy, was I wrong!
Those DC video games must make Warner a ton of money, because that is the demographic for which this is aimed.Comment
