I have been collecting info on the 1966 Superman Musical for years. I have the album and the cd. While I remember watching the tv version and it does remind you have the Batman 66 tv series. What most people do not remember about the play is the TV special:
Thank you for sharing this--I'm a fan and have had the cast recording for years. I think Bob Holiday looks (and sounds) great as Superman. Sondheim was a fan of the show, appreciated its humor.
Looking forward to seeing the tv special above. I've always hoped we might see a revival of this underrated show.
thanks for posting the black and white film segment from the show ,its great to see it ,and probably one of the few filmed segments of Bob as supes ,shame they didnt guest star him with Adam and Burt on batman back in the 1960s ,would have blew my mind back then in the uk to seen even just a picture of them together let alone a 2 part episode lol
I saw a version of this produced in NYC about 3 years ago. It was just the musical numbers, not the book. But it was a lot of fun. I've had a recording of the soundtrack for about as long as I can remember. It's a fun show, and has great, catchy tunes if you like Broadway musicals even a little bit.

From what I can gather, it was the Batman '66 that caused the play to not do as well. The problem was, why should I pay to watch an expensive play when I can stay at home and watch Batman for free. On a side note I would have loved to see a commerical that tied the two together.
