Really??!!?? Letterman's Avengers appearance gets graded and sells for $80. It's not the only one that sold for ridiculous amounts of $$$ averages have been in the $15 - $25 range. It was a 50 cent bin book last year. Pathetic. It's a whole new world in the comic book world. Real readers and collectors will soon go the way of the doe doe bird.

I'm part of a comic book collector group on Facebook. I'm stunned by the prices that some comics are going for, and the types of book that are labeled as a "key" issue. And there is a lingo of "raw" versus "slabbed" books. CGC and similar entities acknowledge that if one opens the case, and then resubmits the same book that the grade may change. Thus, it is subjective to a degree.

I recall collecting comic books over baseball cards in significant part because I read a comic book. I can't get into the notion of slabbing comic books. People are paying to make sure they can't read their comics!

I've not had access to my collection for about 4 years, but it appears that I can retire on books that I had for sale in my dollar boxes if I submit them to CGC!

Slabbing comic books does help with internet sales since there is a third party providing a grade. But, it isn't for me.
