    League of Extraordinary Gentlemen reboot

That sound you hear is Alan Moore grumbling.

I liked the 2003 film but it didn't have much to do with it's connection to the comic, it was a dumb bubblegum film. Penny Dreadful on Showtime seems to have the tone of League better.

Yeah, considering how well comic book films are doing nowadays, I'm not surprised they are giving it another shot. Something more faithful to the comic would be much better. Hell, if they adapted the war of the worlds story (complete with the prologue on Mars featuring John Carter and Gulliver) it could be epic. But that's probably expecting a lot.

          ^So does Alan Moore.

I disliked the film, though the additional Tom Sawyer and Dorian Gray were interesting touches. I'm a huge fan of the original comic and sequels. I like Penny Dreadful and agree it hits the mark better tonally; I'd like to see a new, more faithful LOEG film.

HAHAHAHAHAHA!!! Perfect and CRAZY - but in a way I totally see it. All those copyright free comic related IPs waiting to be marketed and licensed.

I agree that it's sometimes fun to watch Moore get his whiskers twisted, but to be fair, he became a much bigger curmudgeon after the original "League".

From what I recall, a screenwriter sued Warner Bros. for stealing the idea from a script he wrote, essentially he accused Moore of being hired to steal the idea and take credit for the writing so that WB could avoid paying for the script. During the stages of the trial where Moore was on the witness stand defending himself Warner Bros. suddenly opted to settle out of court. Moore felt betrayed, and I can't really fault him for feeling that way. It was a cold corporate decision that didn't consider his feelings and left him hanging out to dry.

I can't help but think if WB had foreseen how big a contribution Moore's work would be for film and TV in the future they would have handled things a little differently.

Sean Connery cited his "nightmarish" experience making that film as the main reason he quit acting - so if you're a fan of his (which I am), that's a fair reason to hate it

Connery retired because this movie was such a nightmare. The director, Norrington, was the same dude behind Blade, was on fire before LXG, and literally quit directing after this, as he came to hate the experience and the industry. He was a VFX guy and was doing smaller indie financed projects. Not sure where he's at lately.

It has a chance as a TV show, but Moore's stuff is made for the Book format. Once you remove or try and modify the non-narrative stuff, it falls apart. Similar to Giger, Moore's problem isn't truly the corporations, it's that he's not given total control in how to translate the material. The studios know this, but it's easier to play the rights game than risk what he would do.

One of the reasons of the first movie was the Republic of Czech had major flooding during the filming. They were shut down until they moved to a different location to film another part of the movie.

Penny Dreadful borrows a bit from League, but is horror specific. I liked the first season, but will have to wait for the second season to hit netflix.

Rebooting a concept that had promise but failed usually isn't how Hollywood works, but maybe the way it should.

Although I like the new Mad Max movie much more than the originals.

Giving this a bump because of the hissy fit everyone on Facebook is having because they said this time the focus will be female-centric. Of course everyone thinks they're turning the whole cast female instead of just having the main focus this time be on Mina.
