Been doing some ebay research/searching for silver age back issues and came across this PATHETIC auction trying to sell staples that went into comics:

That is just pathetic. I thought the guy on ebay that was selling screws that went into the back of the GI Joe 3 3/4 figures was sad...but this takes sad to a whole other pathetic level.

Actually, I could totally see the logic here in using these for restoration of vintage books. Vintage paper is used the same way to repair holes etc. in vintage posters.

Our restoration people frequently buy 1920's-1940's poster scraps from us and posters too heavily damaged to save for use in their work.

Either way though it is still considered restored right? So what difference does it really make? Most people that restore comic books aren't doing it to keep. I'd say 80% of the time or more they are doing the restoration to sell them. If that's the case whether you use an original staple or a newer staple it is still a restored copy. Not going to tilt the value one way or the other...it's still a restored book anyway that you look at it.

It's not really any different than restoring a vintage Mego using all original parts versus aftermarket reproductions. Using the proper materials makes a huge difference. When it comes to vintage paper, I've seen both good and bad restoration, and it can greatly affect the value.
