    New Images of Batfleck...

Saw these over on Cosmic Book News and thought I would share...

Overall, I like the shape and texturing on the cowl; the ears are DEFINITELY Miller's, beings that their short and kinda stubby, but at least they don't curve inwards like Nolan's did (they seemed to curve inward towards each other ever further in each movie). Still not happy with the bottom of the cowl, either. No one has designed a cowl that really seems to allow Batman any freedom regarding his jawline and this opening, in particular, really seems to accentuate the Affleck's very recognizable chin (perhaps that's why he has stubble where all other Batmen have been clean shaven, to kinda camouflage that chin and it's trademark cleft).

In looking at these photos, it does look like the cowl and the cape are once again two separate pieces which would allow him to turn his head, a luxury I'm sure Michael Keaton would have appreciated.

I'm not so sure about the texturing on the suit. Maybe it's the lighting, but it looks kind of scribbly. Might look better on film or (as it's likely to be) in the dark. Suit definitely has the bulk of Miller's Dark Knight and that Bat Symbol on the front IS Miller's for certain.

Utility belt---eh, looks okay, but I kinda wish, since they seemed to stick with everything else of Miller's, that they'd have stayed with the more off-yellow, canvasy looking belt he had in the book.

    What do you guys think?
sigpic Oh then, what's this? Big flashy lighty thing, that's what brought me here! Big flashy lighty things have got me written all over them. Not actually. But give me time. And a crayon.

This costume is my favorite part of what I've seen from this film so far, and in fact is the only part of the film I'm really behind at this point. They finally tried to adapt the comic book costume...after 26 years!

The suit is great, but...sigh...it looks like Affleck playing Halloween.

WB is crazy for putting out such a clean image.

Huge credit for finally making suit muscle look more natural. The build must have derived from what was done for Evans in Winter Soldier.

I still miss the yellow oval and the logic behind it. With that suit, if I was a bad guy with a gun, I'm aiming for that chin, and it ain't bulletproof.

Amen, Dwayne, it's like what Bats said in TDK: "---why do you think I wear a target on chest--can't armor my head--"

I agree. I think this is why I was surprised they used Affleck because he has such a distinguishable chin, it tends to make his face bleed through the mask (like Clooney). If I had never read an article on Affleck playing the role, I would immediately know it was him in the cowl. I don't see the suit as being all that different from past efforts. It's still molded rubber except it has a thin material over top to try and suggest that is actually his physique, which you can tell its not. The cowl kind of has that panther look from Frank Miller's depiction so the inspiration is obvious. I'm glad they finally released photos, but like Hedrap said, it's interesting they did it in such a front lit way with no environment around him.

^It's the color that sells it for me. The fact that they actually went gray and black finally is a welcome change.

I just wish I liked the rest of what I've seen...

Yeah. The more they lean towards the classic colors, the more desirable the translation. They're getting there, so I give them credit. But it's like anything, until I see him in that environment and get a taste for the treatment, it's difficult to know how it will all translate. You can put just about any of the previous Batman actors in that same shot and the same imperfections would scream out. So light and shadow will service this one in a favorable fashion too, I'm sure. It's just whether I can buy he's Batman and whether Snyder will drown the characters in pretentious social statements to the point of camp. After Man of Steel, I'm wary of his vision. He'll have to sale this one significantly better than a video game with trite social themes.

Simply... for me... this is a jot of vindication for that punch of disappointment I had in 1989 when I realized Batman's suit was going to BLACK----period (well, he had that oval yellow, I guess).

At this point though----the vindication doesn't mean as much. I mean.... look what MOS did as far as changing Supes' costume. I'm used to costume "changes"... ultimately, I'm cool with Supes' costume though---just hope the movie is to my liking. Bats' costume is a nice detail.

I don't know if that gray is a cloth surface---or just looks like it---but, I suppose THAT'S the "point" of all those "scribblies"---to make Bats' suit LOOK more like "cloth" i.e. to appear more "comicbooky"----essentially, the opposite approach movie studios have taken since 1989...take THAT "old-guard Debbie-Downers"

I like this BATMAN costume! We finally got the Black & Gray! The gray is obviously textured to give the illusion that it's some sort of Kevlar-weave body armor. And yet it's a pretty faithful Batman costume.

Call me "ignorant" then---I'm certainly no "Kevlar" or any other type "armor" expert Altho' I'm guessing that your comment was more a reference to a "Kevlar" mention in Miller's GN? 'Cause of course I do remember it was some kind of armor Bats was wearing. I just don't recall if it was "Kevlar" or some other "weaved" armor by name.

Yeah, it's faux Kevlar body armor. The scratch marks are knives, ballistics and sharp objects that have failed to penetrate.

The design is fantastic. Give him white eye HUD LED visors with a full chin guard that houses a vocal distorter, and there's a chance I'll forget it's Afflack.
