HATE! Appreciation thread

Anybody else a big fan of Peter Bagge's hate? I got turned onto Neat Stuff in high school and well, I could relate to Buddy. Hate perfectly coincided with my own twenties and sometimes was like a weird mirror.

I always found it funny how a man in his mid to late thirties could write being a 20 something in the 90s so well but I guess some things are just universal.

There were always copies strewn over my series of crummy 90s apartments. I got so into the characters that when a certain one committed suicide, I refused to buy the issue and never went back. To this day, I don't know how it ended.

I'm a huge fan of this comic! The first issue I picked up was I think the 5th issue? (it's the one where Buddy has a table at a convention). I was instantly hooked and bought every issue thereafter. This series is endlessly re-readable to me, I often grab an issue (I have them all stuck in my vintage comic spinner rack in my office) and read it for the umpteenth time. It's probably one of my all time favourite comic books.

Oh yeah!… always have enjoyed his socio-political riffs in that stark cartoon style.

It was his clever use of well-place objects (commentary) that pepper his work that originally got my attention. Like another language imbedded across the panels. Long live Fantagraphics too!

Peter Bagge is one of my favorites from back then. I enjoyed his Reason strips, too. His newer stuff hasn't done as much for me, unfortunately.

I will attest that I stole Buddy's idea from that issue of using your girlfriend to sell stuff when I had convention tables and I went one further and had them buy things for me, always a discount. Back when cute girls were unicorns at conventions, they held a tremendous amount of power.
