Is it wrong that I miss the days when Jim Gordon was just the guy who turned on the damn light. Part of me really does.

It's all part of the Master Plan that Warner Brothers has. This is the other thread I started yesterday. The link in the thread is a long read but well worth it. It's all about screwing any of the original creators, work for hire created characters, out of any possible money:

        http://megomuseum.com/community/show...ying-royalties

I understand that all these characters were created in a work for hire atmosphere/bullpen...but this is just taking it way to far and it will ultimately be the downfall of DC Entertainment. If you want to completely distance yourself from what is already out there as history/origins/continuity then be prepared for the outcome. I truly feel for the mom and pop comic stores that have been just holding on to make ends meet and pay their bills. The future for the industry going forward with new books is very dim...almost non existent. You can't 'screw the pooch' to the point that it doesn't rear it's head and bite you...and it's gonna hurt.

^I agree with you overall Berto, but I doubt putting Gordon in the suit is saving them any royalties: Bob Kane "created" Jim Gordon too in Tec #27. Of course Bill Finger is still getting screwed.

UNLESS, they can use this "derivative character" double speak to say this is a totally new Batman AND Gordon, and neither fish nor fowl, and no one gets anything...which seems to be the way they are trying to go.

When did WB buy up DC and why pay all that money to completely disrespect and disregard everything it stood for? I realize the property is a cash cow, but how many times can you squeeze reboot milk from the utter? I know most people hate on Didio, but the dude had passion about his job, about his company and was super enthusiastic about all the possibilities DC might aspire to even if his own failings were holding them back. This new batman concept is the torch that ignites their funeral pyre.

Geez guys, It's just a storyline , like when:
              - Azrael became Batman (Knightfall)
              - Dick Grayson became Batman (Prodigal)
              - Dick Grayson became Batman again (after Final Crisis)
              - A million Silver Age stories when Alfred or Superman or random guy was Batman (admittedly these were usually 1 issue stories, but that's the nature of Silver age storylines )

Wayne will be Batman again once it runs its course.

Not if the bean counters for WB have anything to do with it...and it looks like they do. There are a lot of old timers that are just tired of the BS and this news of them screwing over the people that write their books makes it look even worse. IMHO DC is done if they really go through with the plans of the post convergence. There was a post here more than ago about how bad this was going to be. Batman looks like Mobile Suit Gundam as one person posted here in the comic book forum.

BTW, if DC does decide to go back to the "Real" continuity and trash this garbage they are planning for the post convergence....will they revert to the old numbering yet again

Right...and that's the day I'll start buying the book again. Until then...I'm OUT!

IF YOU CLAIM YOU ARE OUT, PLEASE, PLEASE STAY OUT, THIS IS THE ONLY THAT ANY COMIC COMPANY OR MOVIE OR BUSINESS WILL GET THE HINT.
IF IT DOES NOT EFFECT THEM, THEY WILL KEEP ON DOING IT, IF IT BRINGS IN AT LEAST A DOLLAR PROFIT THEY WILL KEEP DOING IT, HOWEVER IF IT DOES NOT BRING IN MONEY AND THEY HAVE A LOSS, THEY WILL GO BACK TO THE WAY THINGS WERE OR MAKE IT BETTER. (THINK OF NEW COKE)
LAST NIGHT, BATMAN WAS A SELL OUT IN 2 OF THE COMIC STORES I GO. THIS SENDS A MESSAGE TO THEM , THAT THEY ARE DOING GOOD AND THE END RESULT WILL BE MORE CRAP LIKE THIS. :o(

^ Yes. I have nothing against people who actually enjoy this buying it. But so many fans seem to feel they HAVE to buy these comics out of some sense of loyalty, and they are miserable with the changes they have made. If you don't like it...don't buy it. You are essentially voting with your dollars.

I know most of this stuff is probably just a temporary storyline, but DC has put fans through the shredder in endless attempts to grab new readers. It works briefly, and they walk away, leaving a bunch of disgruntled older fans who are paying hard earned money to feel screwed and abandoned.

It's what I've been saying in a couple of threads here in the comic section. This is a jumping off point if you are disenfranchised with the comic book industry. I started to edge toward the very edge a few years ago and now it is time to say goodbye to new books altogether. Think of all those series that you were curious about back in the day...now you can afford them with the money you save on not buying the new stuff

^I dropped out a few years before the New 52. I didn't like DC's direction then, but I had no idea how far afield they'd go.

I said in another thread, the results of these events will determine whether I'm in or out. I have zero problems dropping stuff that doesn't appeal to me. If that turns out to be everything from a certain company so be it. I'm certainly hoping that's not the case.
No matter what happens I'll still have Spider-Man (the one book I buy regardless of quality because I've been buying it monthly since 1982) and the licensed stuff like Star Wars will be unaffected. May even prompt me to try licensed books from other companies. Got a sampling of that with the Star Trek/Planet of the Apes crossover and enjoyed it.
