Comics have always reflected the modern world in which they take place. Nothing has changed in that regard.

The people who complain about modern comics are rarely readers of modern comics. Doesn't mean they're bad, or even that your opinions are necessarily bad, it just means you grew away from them.

That isn't a bad thing, but demanding they reflect your worldview, when the world at large has evolved, can be a bad thing.

Gay people exist. As such, gay superheroes exist, and SHOULD exist. Just like when DC and Marvel began introducing Black superheroes in the 70s, and recently more Latino, and Asian heroes. They exist because there is a need for them. And a desire to expand into those untapped markets.

Say what you will about gratuitous violence and sex. I'm all for keeping both implied rather than overt, but there is no place for racism and homophobia.

i like to read comics that don't preach modern "values" at me. I just want to enjoy a fun read. The modern comics fail miserably. I'd rather buy an old comic from the 80s than a modern comic. i mean, paying $5 for a 50 cent comic used to annoy me, but paying $5 for a modern comic shows me that IF i spend money on comics, it's going to be old stuff.

I've heard from many comic shop owners that back issue sales outperform new comic sales.

Coming back to this discussion eight years later...I find it interesting that Alan Moore now admits regretting writing the Killing Joke and Watchmen for the long-term effect they had on mainstream comics. Hindsight is 20/20 they say.

I picked up both the Bizarro and Batmite... Both were enjoyable, but the Bizarro made me laugh harder.

I dunno, the hardbacks are pretty cheap as it is. They can be had for real cheap on ebay.

I dunno, I could never get into Golden age stuff. As a child of the Bronze age, I grew up on them and the onslaught of silver age reprints from the big two during the 70s so that is where my heart lies, and don't really see either as a downgrade. I'm sure there are Image kids out there that just can't get into Bronze age stuff too.

not worried at all. Its a 6 issue mini, so tailor made for a trade. Its how I'm keeping up with Batman '66 too.

Bizarro looks like the only thing I would even consider picking up from the DCU at this point. And that I will trade wait since comic stores are at least 30 minutes or so from the house now.

That Bat-Mite book looks awesome. I particularly like the constipated drag queen with dumbo ears dressed as Wonder Woman.

Me am so unhappy. Me not read new Batmite and Bizarro Comics from DC. Me not recommend you read them.
