Jason is quite adept with a brush too. A couple of years ago, just as he was blowing up big, I was dropping something off at his house and he invited me inside to look at the Famous Monsters cover he was painting... what blew me away the most was how small he was working given the amount detail he was putting into it.
I'm sure his brushwork is solid as well. It wasn't a criticism that these were digital. I was pointing out what a great artist can do with traditional techniques no matter the medium.
