...on some of my comics in my collection. No so much Bronze age or earlier...but modern age books. I went to the Big Apple Con this past weekend and was absolutely FLOORED! by some of the prices on some of the modern books. The first appearance of Rocket Raccoon going for more than $200??!!?? You couldn't give that book away about 3 - 5 years ago. I don't personally have one of those...but I do have a few Modern Age books that I definitely won't miss if I sell them off. I HATE CGC grading...but if that's what it takes and someone is willing to give me ridonculous amounts of $$$ for a book that is graded I'm all in. Some of the books that I see, Batman Adventures 12 with the 1st Appearance of Harley Quinn and New Mutants 98, are insane.

^I was totally floored to find that comic going for gabs of cash last year at Lexington Comic Con. I have the first several years of that series, under its various titles, including that one.
I should probably considering cashing out on a few things too, including that one. I could buy a lot of cool old toys with that money.

Certain Modern Age Books I have no problem grading and selling for max $$$...If you wanna pay insane money for a book that's been published 100 times more then any of my Silver Age Books AND that I can get in an all inclusive TPB for 1/2 price, then go ahead.
...but there is no way in hell I'm selling off spot-issues that kill a long run of books I have like Hulk, Avengers, Ironman, Thor, Daredevil, etc. ...ain't happenin'
Personally I think this is the Market trying to artificailly make a Market & playing with consumers, but that is just my opinion.Everyone is Entitled to MY Opinion...Your's, not so much!Comment

My thing is this...if they have a hardcover (preferred) or a trade with these stories I'm all for selling off some of the modern age stuff and replacing them with Hardcovers or Trades. I just want to read the stories. I have had the intentions of selling off my X-Men from 94 - up for about 5 years now. I'm so tired of the X-Men...but I still have an affinity for most of the post 94 run to about issue 200 or so. I think the Masterworks are up to around 170's or so. It will create a hell of a lot more space in the collection. I've seen a lot of stuff like ANY book dealing with Thanos going for ridiculous amounts of $$$. And I'm not talking about the bronze aged stuff...I'm talking about Infinity Gauntlet/War/Warlock from the 90's stuff. Same goes for stuff like Deadpool and stuff as recent as Preacher going for $$$. Just because they are tied to movies??!!?? I guess Wall Street and new so called collectors/investors are looking for a new thing to sink their $$$ into. I'll be more than willing to sell them my modern back issues if that's what they want...and fill in a few more holes in the Silver Age collections in my collection with the $$$ I make from selling off the new stuff."When not too many people can see we're all the same

That's just crazy!
Might want to get it slabbed. From finished Ebay auctions 8.5 CGC's are getting $400 - $500. I think the problem with that book is that it's not what ended up being the Guardians they used in the movie. Looks like the Starlord Magazine they came out with is getting $$$. Tales To Astonish 13 is getting $$$$$. First Groot. Even 3.5 grades are getting close to $1000 or more. Can't believe that low of a grade can command that kind of cash. More investors that have no idea what they are buying:

This is why I am starting to go through the collection and start weeding out some books that I have that most likely bought from collections from either stores that closed down or antique store findings. I've found probably about 3 long boxes worth of silver age books over the last 10 years or so. Some stuff I am keeping...but some of it I don't have any reason to keep because I don't collect or am interested in that particular series. BTW, one of those long boxes that I've found in the past basically went into my brothers collection. He upgraded about half of his Journey Into Mystery/Thor and Tales To Astonish/Hulk collections.
With some of these prices I see at shows and finished/sold ebay auctions it is very tempting to just sell everything off...but that other side of my head keeps saying "No...you'll never be able to upgrade or find these again in that condition" Collecting is a sickness"When not too many people can see we're all the same

I have all the Batman Adventures in mint condition, including #12. If it's worth that much it's as good as gone.Check out my website: Megozine Covers - HomeComment
