Irwin Hasen, 96, has passed away...

Seeing this news pop-up in different places, but haven't seen it appear in any major news channels.

If it is true, another HUGE loss in the community...one of the most pleasant & approachable person I've ever met at any of the shows I've been to in my 40 years reading & collecting.

One of my Favorite All-Star Covers:

I had the pleasure of meeting Mr. Hasen at a con around 15 years ago. He and Julius Schwartz were sitting together. I handed them a copy of one of Roy Thomas' All-Star Companions and asked them to sign it. There was a picture of a young Julie Schwartz, and they both got quite a laugh out of it, with Mr. Hasen saying "You were one handsome mother ****er"! My jaw hit the floor. These guys were two old pals, not just comic history luminaries.

RIP Mr. Hasen, creator of Wildcat and Dondi, among many other achievements.

One of the great Golden Age artists that I had the pleasure of meeting on more than one occasion. An artist that I will always have an affinity for because of his work on All Star. My favorite of any DC comic that has ever been printed. Again, this is why I tell anyone that goes to a comic convention that if you see an artist that affected you as a reader go up and say Hi. I've met basically all of my Comic Book heroes/artists/writers except for Jack Kirby...but he was doing shows before I was going to them back in the 80's. RIP Irwin.

Got todays Daily News here in NY and that on line link to the obit is a hell of a lot nicer than what was in the paper today. Little article in the middle of the page that would be completely lost if I wasn't looking for it. Shame that they can't print what they put into the on line article.
