I just got R-S Superman in dvd, I'm trying to build DC animated library.

The show looks good--I see Gil Kane did the model sheets--but I didn't think much of the stories, either.

OTOH, the Timmverse engaged me from the very start.

The comics will always be my favourite medium for Superman action. Especially the Bronze Age era.

But as far as live action screen portrayals of Superman go, Reeve will always be the one I remember most fondly.
Nobody since then (except for Henry Cavill) has impressed me in the role.

Dean Cain and Tom Welling? No thanks.

Henry Cavill is a good Superman who can become a great Superman. He has the looks (closer to the comics than even Chris Reeve)...there's a heroic earnest quality to him that I like a lot. The problem...Snyder wants to rock superstar him or something...make him just badarse. If he tones down that aspect of his on screen Superman...Cavill could morph into the perfect Superman. I hope once the JLA movie hits the silver screen...we will finally get that Superman we all have been waiting for...worthy enough of being compared to Chris Reeve.

You nailed that, Hector. For being the most powerful hero in the DCU, Superman oozes humility and character and Cavill gets that across in a very realistic way that seems almost natural for him.

            Exactly.

Actually, Cavill's Kent showed more restraint than Reeve' Kent, when dealing with a bully truck driver.

Reeve got beaten up...then when he regained his powers...he sought revenge...and physically assaulted the bully truck driver. Cavill just destroyed his truck, a material thing...but never laid a hand on the bully. But then of course...Cavill was not beaten to a pulp...lol.

My favorite Superman (and Superboy) is the stories five/six years before Crisis hit. Including the Superfriends cartoon. I "liked" the Byrne run, and the Ordway/Jurgens run (which was better than Byrnes, IMO) but the character since then hasnt really regained my interest.
I was really wanting to like Superman Returns, but the story was a letdown. The newest film is to much like most modern films and I couldnt get into it.

I liked the first two Superman films but even back then I was a kid I thought they could have been done better.

Superman/Clark is a timeless character that cannot be defined by any one actor's portrayal. There are some we like more than others but all have brought something to the role. Routh would have been outstanding were he brought back in a non-Singer film. How awesome of a dynamic would it be for him to be opposite Affleck in next year's movie? Superman's heart and morals should always be his greatest super power. I don't yet see that with Henry. To me, Brandon was the second best Supes behind Chris.
I almost had a psychic girlfriend but she dumped me before we met.

If anyone here believes in psychokinesis, please raise my hand.

I liked Brandon too...but in all fairness, he was mostly impersonating Chris...not really bringing anything new to the table.

I think Superman the Movie was lighting in a bottle. For what people were first seeing in the late 70's as the new generation of movie magic was outstanding. The fact that they were able to find in Chris Reeve an actor that could play Superman the way he did was icing on the cake. I do have to say that I much prefer the George Reeves or Dean Cain version of Clark Kent much better than the movie version. I like that both of those TV versions basically have Clark and Supes one and the same person rather than with the Chris Reeve version (as he was directed to do I am sure) where to me it felt like Superman pretended to be like he was weak Clark Kent.
                    It's all good!

cavill has it in him to be a great superman if the directors would do what the readers already know.

Reeve's Superman was great, and I think Henry Cavill has a lot of fine qualities, too. The character is clearly larger than life.
