the big problem with all the "badass-ing-ness" of the DCU is Batman sort of loses his uniqueness. It'd be a like a whole team of Wolverines. It seems to be lost on Snyder that these characters are supposed to be heroic and look that part, not mangy rejects from a death metal video.

Submariner is the ultimate conflicted angry superhero (next to Hulk). Having said all that...Superman still kicks his arse...

Fun fact Namor was actually the first flying Superhero. Superman was a leaper in the early years.

Well, I guess you're absolutely correct.

I was just hoping for some mercy from what Nolan wrought.

I thought the joyless tone of BATMAN BEGINS was a disgusting turn-of-events for superhero movies, and I've seen it's negative repercussions throughout the majority of superhero movies since---even in movies like Iron Man, where others would claim otherwise because of RJD's charisma overshadowing...um... "the shadows" present in that breakthrough Marvel flick.

The animated sequel to the recent (animated) JL movie was great and featured the coolest hybrid Curry ever to grace a DC movie or TV show IMHO (I have no idea what this animated Aquaman's character is based on exactly as far as comic versions of Aquaman, but I recognized a lot of classic Aquaman elements, not least of which was the orange-shirted outfit).

Momoa (presumably from the pic above) ain't that recent animated JL Curry.... and Momoa's likely quite FAR from that animated JL Curry.

        Am I surprised? No.

I've despised DC's live-action movie decision making for years---and haven't been that impressed with Marvel's either.

With Batman being based on Miller's Dark Knight Returns and the Aquaman being based on Peter David's version, which was a cross of King Arthur and Posiedon, but even darker, it's clear snyder/WB/DC wants harsh versions of the characters. I'm guessing Flash will be a chain smoker and Wonder Woman will go around kicking puppies. Maybe Superman will sever Aquaman's hand with his heat vision. Who knows, Luthor may end up the hero by default.

I tried my hand at combining Hedji's work with the original poster... I think it has a bit of a charm to it (although, i have to admit, I'm not directly concerned w/the costume, rather I'm more concerned about the IMPLICATIONS of the new Aquaman image, above any specific thing).

I didn't have a problem with the tone of Batman, its the same tone on the next DC character, Superman that really grated on me. It shouldn't be there on Supes, he should be the lighter of the two, not the same cookie cutter world. Its not Nolan's fault, its the WB people for thinking that the solution is make them all dark like Nolan's films. The Marvel movies actually treat the characters and audience with the respect that WB should be showing.

That's the common consensus. But it's not mine.

I thought Batman Begins was joyless---and it's success has washed over everything IMHO.

I'd try to be more positive...and, sometimes I am... I can distribute some nice nods to movies like the debut Cap America film, and even Nolan's The Dark Knight. But it still feels like hollow compliments even as the sentiments roll out of my mouth (or fingers).

That "respect" you speak of----I just don't see it in any significant amount in any superhero movies---haven't since the Raimi-Spidey years. And---yes---I know I'm the exception---in the minority--or what-have-you.

That said: I've been very pleased (on the whole) with the many, many DC Animated movies released---so that's a positive.

Oh, and one more thing. GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY? Now THAT'S what a superhero film should feel like IMHO. GOTG gives me hope as we fly upward and onward into the future of DC/Marvel live-action movie offerings.

Who knows: It may be indeed memorable. I like the mythic look. For me, the look is only one part of it; a good story is an equally important
element. Inevitaby, the contemprary live action story-telling will add to the "Aquaman: The Sovereign of the Seas" interviews. The character has always been a forerunner.
