Arrow-Verse: What should happen to John Diggle?

    Today MTV New stated:

"It’s funny, I’ve spoken to David quite a bit about this issue, I know it keeps coming up. I spoke to [writer] Geoff Johns at DC after that interview went viral. Basically, John Diggle is now a character in the comics… John Diggle is John Diggle. We’re not being coy and saying John Diggle is someone else, i.e. John Stewart. DC has other plans for that character. We love David, and we love the character of John Diggle that he’s created. We have really cool plans for him… they involve a wedding ring, but they don’t involve a power ring."
This got me to thinking. What should happen to John Diggle. If he is not going to become a reinterpret version of John Stewart that what purpose does he serve. Felicity is this version of Oracle, while Thea will become Speedy soon. That leaves Team Arrow with

    Arrow
    Arsenal
    Black Canary
    Speedy
    Oracle
    possibly Wildcat

So what purpose does Diggle serve?

    This is my speculation:

John should become the head of A.R.G.U.S., (Advanced Research Group for Uniting Super-Humans), as well as the UN's liaison and take the up the mantle of The Guardian.

It is getting rather silly of Diggle to be running around Starling City fighting bad guys and not wear a mask, costume, or body armor. He has (soon) to be wife and a child to look after.

    What do you think?

Guardian would be a good fit, or take up the Wildcat mantle, in the big fight scene I took it that he was gravely injured or killed. On the other hand, can't he just stay John Diggle, the one guy with a normal life and not all screwed up in the head like the rest?

Yeah Ollie calls Thea Speedy, but Roy Harper was Speedy in the comics and wears a red hoodie in some episodes.

For three years he has been running around with vigilantes fighting crime while working at a top secret spy unite running around with crazy villains fighting crime. I think a normal life left was never in his cards.

roy became Arsenal in the comics and that is what they call him on Arrow. Thea has been getting trained by Malcolm and will likely don the mantle of Speedy.

I like Diggle. he is kind of their grounding in reality.

In Young Justice, Roy was Speedy, Arsenal, and Guardian at the same time, due to cloning.

Diggle being called The Guardian when out in the field might be cool, with the shield and all. I'd be ok with that, but not so much if he goes full tilt costume hero. I'm expecting Vigilante somewhere along the line, although the name doesn't fit Diggle.
BTW, this weeks episode showed why Sarah was the better of the Canaries. I think they killed off the wrong Lantz. I guess Katy Cassidy had the better contract. Because up until they killed Sarah, Laurel was serving no real purpose on the show.
And hey, look at Thea, all grown up! She knew that guy what, for the length of three conversations and into the sack? Or do you think this is the way she becomes the Arrowverse version of Mia Reardon?

Thea was a drug addict and they could very well play in the HIV positive aspect for her character when she becomes Speedy

Maybe they could turn him into Mr. Terrific II?

Diggle is a great character as he is. I think he should stay the same, but short of that, the Guardian suggestion is solid.

anyone else finding it bizarre that incredible un-toyetic characters like Felicity and Diggle are showing up as action figures?
