Seeing that Joker makes me want a Jack Kirby Batman run. And what is up with Aquaman's head? Looks really un-Kirby like.

The first mini is kinda...MEH. As a kid, I will fully admit I found Kirby's current art...weird. By the second mini, where he drew the whole thing, I was starting to come around. That one is actually not bad! The third one...no Kirby...ugh.

The third one was Carmine Infantino, awesome in its own right!

That poster is full of win.

I have the utmost respect for Infantino, but by the 80s...I felt like he was phoning a lot of his stuff in. The SP mini is one of those, I feel.

I wish Royer had inked all of Kirby's work on the first two series. I was never crazy about Greg Theakston's inks. I think he tried to "over-Kirby" the pencils, and in doing so took out a lot of the energy in the pencils. The cover to series 1 #3 with inks by Mike Thibodeaux is also nice.

DC should have let Kirby loose on Wonder Woman!

The DC stuff during this period was exciting to me. I would love a poster of that Super Powers advertisement up top. I think Kirby did a great job even if he wasnt as his best then.

I like his Batman and think he could have done some interesting things with him.

Almost looks like Hawkman is swinging Lex like a baseball bat.

^That poster makes me really wish they gave Robin his cycle in the toyline. I had an extra Buddy L Spider-Man cycle, so I cut the Spidey off, peeled the stickers away, and BAM Robin cycle.

Also interesting that Kirby gave Hawkman a more prominent role in the poster than the more popular Flash or Green Lantern. Kirby had done presentation art for a Hawkman animated series while working at Ruby Spears animation.

I have to admit, it really floors me whenever you read Infantino himself saying that he was just cashing paychecks, even on his legendary run on the Flash. But I was a kid who loved his run on the Flash, especially the end with the "death" of Zoom and the Trial of the Flash.
