About time but I still had to check the calendar to make sure this wasn't April.

Well, who'd a thunk it. I do hope they keep Garfield. I like him as Spidey, despite elements of the ASM movies I don't care for.

The wording of the announcement is a little worrying. "Sony... brings Marvel ... into ... the world of Spider-Man" Not the other way around. Makes it sound like Marvel are bending over.

It let's Sony save face after the leak scandal IMO. "Sony keeps creative control, yada yada yada." Their creative control will probably start and end with: Do not kill him, keep making films, and by God keep that character making money. Now, go do it!

                      That will be it.

Marvel has total control. The wording is so Sony can save face.

When a studio president steps down, they can take whatever properties they helped developed into their production deal. So Pascal stepped down this weekend and took Spidey. That caused a domino effect where most likely her boss Lynton struck the deal with Feige because Sony studios is in massive disarray now and couldn't successfully launch a Spidey film without major blowback from investor as to why they aren't working with Feige.

The main point is Pascal no longer has control, but will appear to be making decisions. She won't have say over script, director and as seen with Garfield, who plays Spidey. Removing Garfield was the big signal Marvel.

Two things not being discussed yet is how much of this is a reaction to Justice League, cause Civil War is now a forgone summer champ, and how much fear did Sony have over how Fox is being isolated.

I hope they recast JK Simmons as J Jonah Jameson. With a recast of Parker, it might deflate the secret identity reveal if there's no familiarity with the new actors playing the key roles. I think seeing JK Simmons react to Parker being Spider-man would be worth the admission price alone.

I knew the dominos were falling when JK Simmons mentioned the other day that he had been approached. I think he will play a small cameo role across several MCU movies, like Samuel L Jackson but smaller.
