The first comic I asked for was ASM #64, The Vulture's Prey. It was on a shelf in a little market that was in the small town my Great Grandma lived in. We walked down there to buy some groceries, and she asked me if I wanted a coloring book. I said I'd rather have the comic, and that was that.

The first comic I paid for with my own money was ASM #97. Near the same town, but a different store (a brand new supermarket). I earned a quarter for helping out in the garden that day, and had to have this comic when we drove into town later that afternoon for some meat. I remember handing the lady my quarter, and getting a nickel & five pennies back.

I still have that copy and to this day, it is my all time favorite Romita cover. I actually have a framed 24x36 Giclee canvas of it in my hallway.

    Fantastic Four 186 from 1977.

I am fairly certain this is the one as it's burned into my memory picking it from the spinner rack at the local drug store. I distinctly remember the Salem's Seven with the thorny yellow dude and the guy with snake arms. I just researched this issue and found out, strangely enough, it was drawn by George Perez, my all-time favorite artist. How weird is that? I think I'll have to go e-baying for this issue. I'm not really nostalgiac, but that's a cool connection to have to a back issue.

i remember in the late seventies and early eighties (around seven to ten years of age) i use to get those blue ribbon digest books dc put out every month. it was everything from the teen titans, superman, to the years best. it was my earliest exposure to superheroes in general. I also read alot of archie digests because i remember having a large stack of them next to the bed...

If that was Spiderman Special# 2, (Lo, The Goblin), it was mine too.. It was outstanding. The '73 reprint was one of my first.

The first I recall having was Captain America# 113 (All Hail Steranko..!!) and Hulk #114, from 1969 which my Dad bought me when I was sick at home.

When I was a little kid (under 10)...I wasn't into superhero comics.

I loved Little Lulu...it was my favorite early in my life.

Then a bit later...I moved to The Archies (strange that a kid would rather read about teens than superheroes, lol).

While living in Mexico...Kaliman was a big favorite.

Then once I got into superheroes (ages 11 and up)...I got into Superman (and some Batman)...he was my first in that genre...and I stuck mostly with him until I hit my mid to late teens...then...believe it or not...Superman started boring the hell outta me...lol.

That's when I discovered Spider-Man...it was so radically new to me...so different than DC Comics at the time...I was really hooked with Spidey.

Then in the 20s...I really got into the X-Men.

Now in my 40s...I'm back with the Man of Steel...that's my main man right there...

Tough to say, though I'm pretty sure it was Micronauts #12. There may have been a Justice League of America issue before that, but I can find a cover that matches my memory of it.
