I wish somebody like Boom would revive the Dell Four Color line with continuing numbering, make it a series of specials or such. They've been reviving all the old 80s movies, I could see it being very much like the old series, maybe an Escape from New York book, then Peanuts, POTA, back to Garfield , cartoon stuff, an original action book here & there, could be pretty cool.

Marvel's doing their own reboot now too. Between the "Spider-Verse" leading into "Secret Wars"...and their plans to merge the Ultimate Universe with the current(something Marvel said they'd never do)makes me want to cancel ALL of my marvel Books. The Ultimate Universe should just go away!

Around these parts we refer to the New 52 launch as "the day Wildstorm bought DC."

^DC's current state really does go back to the day they bought Wildstorm and brought Jim Lee in as a creative force in the DCU. Combine that with DiDio walking in, and you have the slow end to the DC Universe I loved.

This is what I would prefer. Self contained stories with varied content. I would like to see some of the semi-retired artist and writers do this type of thing with classic properties to.

Thank God for independent books. Marvel and DC lost my money a while back. Made it really easy with the crap they kept pulling. I have no idea who is who anymore with either company. I think the last Marvel I bought was the Starlin Thanos/Hulk book. Only reason why is because Starlin is doing it. Trying like hell to get the Star Wars Alex Ross variant of issue 1. The book is still out on that because I haven't read Star Wars 1 yet. Here's my think with DC...as long as the JSA/All Star Squadron/Golden age aren't in any if their plans they will not get a penny from me. I'd rather spend my money on Dynamite revival of Mandrake/Flash Gordon/Prince Valiant/Phantom or Boom Studios' Sirens. Going backwards is the way I am going...buying back issues of other books at cons. New 52 was an absolute disaster and basically told the "Older" readers and collectors to F off while they try to create something that they thought would be new and appeal to a new generation that doesn't give a crap about comics. DC/Warner/Wildstorm deserve all the backlash (pun intended) they get. Good riddance.

Their eyes can't hope to see

                Isn't it a pity".

is this an indication that Nu52 didn't work or just the next step in this alleged plan of Lee and Didio?

^ In wrestling vernacular, they got a cheap pop and generated some heat for awhile but it wasn't enough to fully get them over with the fans. So they're tweaking the gimmick a bit.

Can't blame em. But, no, nothing really different. I have a feeling there will be a Geoff Johns-written SHAZAM book at some point. From a skim over the solicits, he's only writing one announced book and I believe his contract calls for 2.

It does appear that some of the titles are being positioned more in line with WB's film plans.

I've lost the interest and intent to buy as much as I used to. One nice thing about the renumbering is that I've completely lost that old obsession with having complete runs of titles.

My favorite versions of these characters reside in my mind's eye and I have a lot of reprints, collections and some back issues to keep me busy beyond picking up a few collections now and then.
Over the past couple decades, my knowledge of the "Behind The Scenes" of the comicbook industry has grown. I'm more interested in THAT than the comics themselves a lot of times. There are a lot of opinions/evaluations of the DC/Marvel marketing trends on this thread and I feel yours kinda sums it up best: Unavoidable tweaks to boost sales every so often, good, bad and otherwise, but really it's all "the same ol', same ol'" with the idea that the "same ol'" includes modifying that "same ol'" for changing times/culture, such as the proliferation of DC live action superhero movies these days and into the future.

Most poignantly and pertinently, EVERY nerd should keep that "Mind's Eye" in good order and easily accessible. Heck, write a fan-fic of your favorite character if you have to!

Lee and Didio will never admit the new52 didn't work, and it did boost sales for a time. I guess that's a win for them or at least how they are playing it.

The real issue with super hero comics is that for the most part there is only the appearance of change with key characters and there is no incentive for the creators nor a real desire by the publishers to have new characters created. Creators wisely save their best ideas for creator-owned comics. Publishers would rather have creatores rejigger exsisting characters, which the companies already own, than have a new characters hit big and the rights be contested.

It creates a stale setting. Imagine telling Jack Kirby to do comics but not create anything new?

The new take on Batgirl is a perfect example. Basically the same character, written younger in new but not too new clothing. It makes a little splash and now several DC titles are being tweaked and they are calling it "batgirling" the character.

It's like McDonald's putting barbecue sauce and their burgers and hailing it a new creation.
