Could the Penguin really be the Joker?

Latest rumors going on about the Gotham TV show...

Mmm, you know what? If you look closely at Robin Lord Taylor portraying Cobblepot, he does have Joker like features.

Joker is skinny...Penguin is short and stocky...Taylor is skinny. His nose also resembles the Joker's more than the Penguin's.

However, how about his gait? Could he be faking his walk and overall mannerisms?

    It does make you go...mmmmmmm...

That was discussed in the Gotham thread, IIRC. Some dude on Reddit came up with the original theory.

More current info suggests he was supposed to be Joker, but WB wouldn't allow it cause he's seen as a movie-only property. The producers have confirmed that was an early idea, but claimed they dropped it. I don't know if it matters anymore as they're creating such huge variations, such as Dent's and Riddler's age to Wayne, that the normal patterns don't apply. So he's called the Penguin, but he's Joker in every other way.

I'm glad that Gotham started the ball rolling with the Penguin instead of the Joker.

Bringing in the Joker, even slightly, this early smacks of desperation. Doesn't seem like this show was really planned out very well, with the endgame already apparent, past the original "elevator pitch"...

They just did Scarecrow, rather well too, but yeah, this makes almost all of the Bat villains a good dozen years older than Bruce, except for Catwoman & Ivy. Does anyone else think the chick that Nigma is hung up on is going to become Harley Quinn?
As for the Joker, I'm betting this is a tease instead of the real thing.
Next week they're introducing the Flying Graysons or at least the couple will be meeting. The girl playing Robins future mother is from our area.

I am enjoying the ride. I know that they are playing with the universe and mixing things up, but it's really good fun. It occurred to me that the pitch must have been "let's do something like ABC's ONCE but instead of reimagining the Disney princess universe, let's take the Batman universe and reintroduce all of these characters with an interconnecting web."

This is getting so good...looks like the Joker will be just a tad older than Bruce.

I disagree about signs of desperation, as Gotham is a ratings winner, and it has just been renewed.

Introducing the Joker was to appease the fans, who have been demanding him...and I think it's cool that the producers gave in.

And yes, they did the Scarecrow right. IMO...last night was the best episode so far...and I double enjoyed seeing Cobblepot and Nigma meet face to face for the very first time...a contrast of styles for sure...it was awesome. I even enjoyed the Fish Mooney backstory...she may not be an original comic book character...but she has been a great addition to the show...having said that...we all know Pinguin is going to eventually dispose of her.

Love Gotham, can't get enough of it...definitely my favorite show right now.

Renewing "Gotham" is as much, if not more, about Fox needing, wanting a comic book hit. Ratings have not been as strong as they were for the first couple of episodes and many many comic book fans and TV critics have lamented about the direction of the show. So I'm not sure where you're getting your info. In the same vein, I'm not hearing anyone clamoring for the Joker. Too much too soon is what I'm hearing. By comparison, most people seem to be singing the praises of CW's "The Flash" which has also been renewed I believe and is a better example of how to use the comics as source material and yet present it in a new and fresh way without tieing your hands. But since Fox is a bigger player than CW they get more mainstream press.
