Spider-Man 3 didn't work very well, per Sam Riami

Not much here but he kind'a knew it:

Sam Raimi opened up on his time working on Spider-Man 3. In a recent Nerdist podcast, the director shared why he believed the third film wasn’t as successful as the previous installments, Pajiba reports. “It’s a movie that just didn’t work very well” Raimi explained. “I tried to make it work, but I didn’t really […]

I don't hate on that movie at all. I think it's perfectly watchable. The evil Peter Parker has some delicious similarities to Superman III. It's by no means a great film, but I always find it entertaining.

It's no longer the "worst Spider-Man film" in my eyes, thank you ASM2. I'll still click away when it's on TV, it makes me cringe.

I think they need to reboot again and give us a proper Green Goblin.

I never hated Spiderman 3. I just thought it lost focus because I believe Raimi was burned out from doing them all back to back to back. Also Sony's meddling by insisting on adding Venom stretched out a script that already had too much going on in it. I don't think that was ever part of Raimi's original plan and I believe that's what he eluded to when he said, " A director should never involve characters he doesn't like." But it's not like he went from making great films to making Batman and Robin. It still had a great cast and had all the hallmarks of a great Raimi film. It was just misguided and after the incredible Spider-man 2 sequel, we were all really expecting the third installment to satisfy us on that same level. A disappointing installment? Absolutely. But a embarrassing film? Not even close. The rebooted product never came close to grossing what the third film made and I believe people wanted to keep the same cast and director. Raimi should have been allowed to redeem himself. That one is on Sony. It's not like the picture bombed. It made more money than the first two. The Raimi films were held to a high standard and the third one missed the mark because of that. But it destroys the rebooted material by a mile.

I'd rather watch the FF movies back to back than watch Spiderman 3...just can't do it....lol

The third film is indeed terrible. I just watch the first two and try to imagine that the 3rd one doesn't exist.

Spidey 3 is a train wreck. Venom makes that much obvious, but honestly, having Sandman "accidentally" shoot Uncle Ben undermines Spidey's entire reason for being. It was just wrong-headed all the way around. I can't honestly say they got one thing right in that film, other than casting Church as Sandman. He was great, but that twist was one we could have done without.

I laughed out loud in the theater at evil Pete. That whole overconfident swagger and dance outside the clothing store had me in stitches. I know I didn't enjoy it as much as the others but I still liked it. Not a huge fan of the twist for Uncle Ben' death, and that Harry is able to let his anger go at the drop of a hat, and his ending in the movie. I will take any of Raimi' 3 over the new Amazing Spider-Man movies any day. I watched the 2nd Amazing one on Monday and whoa, that was a bad Spider-Man movie. Raimi' "Drag Me To Hell" is a solid flick for anyone interested. The guy gave us Evil Dead which scared the heck out of me as a kid so he gets a lot of credit with me.

^ Yup, agreed on all of that. I could watch SM3 with my daughter, but I wouldn't bother showing her either of the ASM movies.

And yes, Drag Me to Hell is easily one of the best horror films of the past decade. So much fun, that one.

I wasn't thrilled with the twist on Pete's uncle, too, but the rest of the movie is fine to me. I have to admit I knew who Venom was going into the movie, but had never read any of the actual issues of the comic, so had no expectations going in.
                        It's all good!

I will never again attempt to watch the third Spider-man movie. Never, ever! It's on a par with Catwoman. Never should have been made. Never should have been watched.

Catwoman is incredibly watchable, I've seen it almost a dozen times. I'm not saying it's good, quite the opposite, it's so terrible it's kind of entertaining.

I wonder if that is why it doesn't bother me very much? I remember Pete getting the suit in Secret Wars but I didn't read the Venom saga, and most of the Spider-Man comic adventures I am familiar with are the Lee & Ditko ones as I had a bunch of Pocket Digests as a kid.
