Holy Bat Details! Stuff I never noticed before Blu-ray!

I'm just amazed at how crystal clear the restoration has been on the '66 Batman series.

You can make out tons of details regarding the costumes that you could never see before, such as:

Batman's utility belt pouches changed three times. The first ones opened on top and had a wide flap. The second ones open from the bottom and have a small circular snap. The third replaced the circular snap with a straight one.

Batman's chest emblem changes. In early episodes it's either an iron-on or silk screened directly on the chest.
Later it's a very glossy raised decal or sticker.

Batman's cowl, trunks, and gloves are slightly more purplish than his cape, which is more bluish.

Batman's gray tights have tiny snaps on the shoulders which hold his cape perfectly in place.

Robin's gloves changed. Early on they are a very bright green soft cotton. Later they're a much darker green leather.

The Penguin's entire shirt front/vest and gloves are actually furry!

CTVT completely missed the fuzzy vest of Pengy, too.

Robin's cloth gloves were in the pilot only, as I recall. They show up on a lot of the promo shots. The shape of West's cowl changed as well. In the pilot, the nose is far more pinched than later versions.

I hadn't really noticed the utility belt changes before, other than the screen test versions. I'll have to keep a look out for those.

I noticed Pengy's fuzzy shirt sometime ago, but yeah, the detail really pops here.

The blue of Batman's cape really surprised me. Until the restoration, it looked very purply. Like you say, other things still retain that purple hue, but man, that cape is midnight BLUE.

^The clarity and color have really helped me with my model kit build. I'm trying to get as screen accurate as possible, and yes, my Batman has a five o'clock shadow!

I noticed Penguin's vest and gloves were fuzzy after the movie came to Blu ray. But yeah, the clarity is just wonderful.

Add me to the Pengy list.

As you go forward in the seasons, his cowl seems to get more purple. It would make sense as I've seen at least one original cowl that is now completely purple.

The stunt doubles for the six arch criminals in the Dr. Cassandra ep are more obvious than ever, but I still rank it as one of the coolest sequences of the entire show. As a kid, I knew how shows worked and that it probably wasn't really them, but I always held out hope. Anytime two villains teamed up or were mentioned in other stories, I loved it.

I am shocked at how often Burt's stunt double can be seen. Even for simple scenes of riding in the Batmobile. Wasn't Burt always saying they made him do dangerous stunts? Not from what I can see.

^^^ Yeah. I was thinking some of the most iconic scenes didn't appear to have Burt in them, including the Batmobile exiting the Batcave. So I'm beginning to think allot of this talk about Burt "doing it all" was a bunch of bologna. His stunt double is all over the place.

Yeah, Victor Paul is so noticeable. He is obviously much older than Burt, and has a much higher hair line. TV shows really vexed me back then, with their use of stunt men. Some of the stuff they have Hubie Kerns (West's stunt double) and Victor Paul do are obviously too dangerous for their stars, BUT a good chunk of them seem LESS dangerous than other things West and Ward do...in the same scene! It's the same on Star Trek.

I think a lot of this was the old "grindhouse" mentality of TV. The 2nd unit filmed the long-distance fight shots while West and Ward shot important close-ups, and then they shot the fight close-ups, just to speed things up.

No one ever guessed these would be scrutinized on huge hi-def screens.
