I think it's awesome. I knew it's story already. It's restoration is impressive.

Megotu FTW. The actual title of the article "Earliest Known Officially Licensed Batmobile To Be Auctioned Off" is trumped by Megotu's AOL-like "teaser" phrase which boasts that it's the first "real" Batmobile.... and, well, it has me wondering if his day job isn't in the advertising genre.
My personal thoughts are that Bat-fans challenging it's value compared to what we know as the "original" real-life Batmobile aren't seeing the underlying meaning here.
If this car is really recognized by DC as the first car they licensed (via that ice cream outfit) that's GOTTA mean something strong in the history of the Batman character only BECAUSE of Barriss' iconic work---not in spite of it."No. No no no no no no. You done got me talkin' politics. I didn't wanna'. Like I said y'all, I'm just happy to be alive. I think I'll scoot over here right by this winda', let this beautiful carriage rock me to sleep, and dream about how lucky I am." - Chris MannixComment

The article states that DC licensed the car to promote the ice cream, and I believe that ice cream came out in the great glut of product in 1966, AFTER the TV show debuted. So while it was created earlier, it was sanctioned later than the Barris car.
Do we know for sure if the original paint scheme looked like the restoration? Why is the beat-up, pre-restoration car white?
I'm not saying this thing is a complete sham or anything like that, but to me calling it the original Batmobile is pushing it. DC could have licensed a black 1963 Oldsmobile and put some Bat-stickers on it, and it would have worked. With what little we know, I have to surmise someone at DC knew this customizer, and contacted him about using it in an "official" capacity.

the original paint was silver. the pre restoration color is the fiberglass which was what the car is made of.
here's a very cool quick video on the car.

Well guess what showed up Ebay. After I spent a many of time correcting the sites about this being a CUSTOM car that DC allowed to be used in promotions and did NOT order it, it did not make as much money as they had hoped. Now the owner is trying to sell it on Ebay. At least this time the did some research and admit it was a custom car not commissioned by DC.

Well it did not sell. It sold at $137,000 but somebody got greedy and put up a high auction price because it ended at '$200,100 and it did not hit the reserve.
This car was not an official Batmobile, so just what do you think you are going to get for it???Visit my wiki site:

Custom... Licensed... I just think its pretty darn cool! The Barris Batmobile willl always be THE Batmobile for me, but, if I had endless amounts of money, I'd have both of these in my garage.WANTED - Solid-Boxed WGSH's, C.8 or better.Comment
