Now a days it seems to be a rift with the gaming/magic card patrons and the comic patrons.

The one shop I never go to in town is notorious for this. If the "card" staff is on shift you can expect to be harassed when asking about comics.

I still buy 70's marvel titles sometimes. I learned to read from my dad bringing home comics from a neighborhood sidewalk sale. The ones I remember were a reprint of Spiderman #9 with Electro and a few 70'-80's Ironman.

That's a shame, but I've seen it. I worked at a comic shop in the late 90s when Magic became huge. Not making a generalization, but some of the Magic players there were fairly obnoxious, the group mentality often taking over. I got to the point where I'd call them down, since a good chunk of them never spent much money there, and just used the place as a clubhouse. Those were always the trouble makers.

The comic shop I frequent now has Magic tournaments in the back of the store, and so far they seem to peacefully coexist with the comic crowd, which is great.

When the card crew is working in my shop, eye contact becomes rarer than Amazing Fantasy 15.

You'd think i was the world's biggest alpha male.

You are pretty tall and scary so much so that people find the need to take photo evidence of your misdeeds in parks. I think it's your whole "John Rambo" vibe let alone your suspected meth lab in the garage. I'm surprised the townsfolk haven't tried to run you out of town.

All the comic book collecting high school kids I get as coop students have some tales about Jeff's and the uber-leet card crew. PRETTY sure if I lumbered into the store I personally wouldn't get any grief. The card nerds would be scared I'd sit on them

P.S. Yes, I actually ask potential co-op kids if they show geek-like tendencies.

I didn't have a local comic shop when I was a kid, if there was one in town I knew nothing of it. I bought my comics at the grocery store, Christensen's market on Clovis and Kings Canyon.

These days I do frequent our one local shop, and the owner and staff are anything but crotchety, curmudgeonly, cranky or grouchy. Come to think of it, they're not even old.
