    Suggestions For Bronze Age Atom?

    Hi all,

I have not bought comics in a long long while, but I have an itch to revisit some of my old favorites.

My era of interest/nostalgia is mid/late 1970s, and one of my faves was DC's The Atom.

Wondering if you knowledgeable comic mavens have recommendations or favorite books featuring The Atom character?

I seem to recall him teaming up a bunch with Batman, Hawkman (?)...

    Thanks in advance!

The current issue of Back Issue magazine has an article on The Atom during the Bronze Age. I'd recommend checking that out for a nice overview. He was the star of Super-Team Family for a time, teaming with other heroes to save his fiancee, Jean Loring.

How'd that ending up working out for him?

        Chris,

Thanks, but please school me; I don't know Back Issue Magazine. Is that an on-line thing, or a real printed mag a comic book store may carry?

Sounds like it is a good resource.

I enjoyed Sword of the Atom mini series. He and wife Jean Loring play roles in Identity Crisis, a newr story

If you don't mind black and white, there are two Atom Showcase editions that reprint his 1960s series.

^I was hoping no one would mention Identity Crisis. Or "The Bronze Age: Now with Rape!". Ugh.

Sorry, I take for granted everyone knows what Back Issue is. It's essential reading for me. Helps keep this old comic fan happy.

He had some nice backup stories in Action Comics too.

Thanks! Yeah, this will fun to hunt for this stuff. This era of back issues does not see too expensive either, which is great.

I am sure there are pricey collectible issues, but am I right in saying the 70s stuff hasn't been too inflated?

If you are interested I think there is a DC trade or hardcover that has the Atom and Hawkman series from the 60's. I think Atom came in around issue 41 of the original Hawkman series in the 60's. Great art and great stories.

No, you should be able to find the Actions for a buck or so in good shape.

I know the Atom was collected in showcase. But that's the only one I've seen.

Do you have the Nova Classics tpb? Volume 2 even included the Defenders #62-64 where all the then minor heroes show up. Good clean bronze age fun.
I was also surprised to learn the entire Deathlok the Demolisher run was collected as well.

I'm all about the Sword of the Atom as well for my favourite childhood encounter with the character, outside of the Superfriends cartoon.

looks like it's available as a trade.
