Was Batman 89 based on Robocop ?

Was watching Robocop last night (haven't seen it in over 20 years) and it dawned on me how similar a lot of things in this movie was to Batman 89.

Everything from the costume itself to how he turns his head.

When he's driving the car he so reminds me of Burton's Batman.

BTW, Robo came of in 87

    Whatcha think ?

Was there at least some subconscious influence ?

Tim Burton stole a lot from The Dark Knight Returns by Frank Miller. In Robocop I get a heavy Iron Man/Ben Grimm-The THING tragic vibe. If nothing else Burton realized from Robocop that a dark and serious Batman film was indeed the way to go.

When I saw Robocop, my first thought was Dark Knight Returns with some of the same bits, the use of tv reports and commercials, the insane gang members, Robo's helmet kinda looking like Bruce Wayne's race helmet. I think Burton's Batman and Robocop just drew from the same source material. Robocop 2 even had Miller as writer.

^Yeah, Robocop had a strong Miller vibe from the get-go. I'd say it's more than coincidence, but I've never really looked into it.

The Director Paul Verhoeven used the same techniques in Starship Troopers, so maybe he read DKR first and kind of kept that format around.
