I have always thought DC ruled on the small screen, Marvel on the big. the DC animated shows and live action have generally all been way better than the Marvel output and the direct to video animated blew Marvel out of the water. In fact Marvel stopped making them. this has been trued for decades. Marvel did well in the nineties with spider-man and x-men but the animation was lacking, IMHO. Batman TAS and Superman TAS were light years better in that eraComment

All I want to know is when will someone make an awesome animated movie for the big screen that really brings comic book artwork to life? It seems to be only natural that movies based on comic book characters/artwork would evolve into a full-length feature with the same, but the story and CGI will have to be spectacular for it to succeed. Secret Wars... Marvels...or just a good ol' Batman detective thriller would be nice. I think I'll be waiting a very long time for this though, as the live-action SH movies seem to be the order of the day. The cost of producing such a film in the way I imagine it would probably be more than a live-action film. Maybe that's why animated shows are left to the small screen.
It's funny. When I was a kid, I was looking forward to the day when Marvel and DC would produce live-action movies. Now, I am looking forward to an animated one. Go figure.Comment

^THIS. I'm still waiting for a Marvel film to grow a set and bring the classic Jack Kirby look to life with exaggerated set design, aggressive angles, and garish colors. I want a Silver Surfer / Galactus movie that looks like this:
This is why Creepshow is such a favorite of mine. The lighting and production design take the comic aesthetic quite literally.
