    NY Comic Con...Completely last minute.

So, I find about this NY Comic Con Thursday from my comic book guy. I tell him the NY Comic Con is not until October and that I really wouldn't be interested because NY Comic Con wants to be San Diego Comic Con East. Basically "The Experience" that comic cons have become. Not for me. Too much flash and not enough substance. That's not getting into the whole ticket prices issue. 50 Bucks to get into one of those shows is ridiculous. Thursday night I get home and start to google the NY Comic Con...sure enough there is a show for June 14th and 15th. Doesn't have any of the Movie and TV stars that have basically taken over Comic Cons these days. Starting to peak my interest. Go to the guest section and all it has are Artists, Writers, and Creators. I'm really starting to get excited because it looks like it's going to be a good ole comic book show like they used to be. Pan down the list of artists and then BLAM!!! Jerry Ordway. 2 seconds later I have a ticket for June 14th. In close to 30 years of going to comic cons (since I was 15) I have never met Jerry Ordway. I've had the pleasure of doing business with him on ebay for some prelims...but have never met him in person. Get to the show and make a B-line for his table in artist alley. I had to wait almost an hour and a half...but it was well worth it. One of the most nicest and genuine people you will ever meet. I wanted to get a sketch done but I really didn't want to hold up the line. We discussed a possible commission and barring any new expenses it will happen. Also finally met Franco and some of the staff from Awww Yeah Comics. Art's great...but his partner and their staff are just as great. Picked up Captain Action Cat and the latest Tiny Titans 1. Didn't get the chance to get them from Art at MegoMeet. Anyway, if there are any of the guys over at NY Comic Con that might be reading this...you done good with this show. I hope that you plan on more shows like this. Don't need the overpriced Movie/TV Stars....we just need our comic book stars: Artists, Writers, and Creators. Thanks.

Here's a pic of Jerry Ordway and a Jack Kirby Collector poster that I got for my Big Bro:

"When not too many people can see we're all the same
And because of all their tears,
Their eyes can't hope to see
    The beauty that surrounds them
    Isn't it a pity".

    - "Isn't It A Pity"

I've grown to like his work a lot more over the years. It's cool you got to meet him finally. It looks like he borrowed one of Perez's tropical shirts. I need to get me one of his Shazam posters. That's going into a frame for sure.
I almost had a psychic girlfriend but she dumped me before we met.

If anyone here believes in psychokinesis, please raise my hand.

That's pretty cool. I'd love one of those Shazam! posters as well.

Ordway is one of my favorites. I got to meet him years ago and had similar nice experience. I think from all accounts he's like a lower-key George Perez. Just one of the nicest guys in comics.

Nice that you found a true "comic convention". They are rare these days...

I was talking to a couple of staff members and they told me that NYCC has plans on doing more of them. I hope so because it was a great atmosphere and it was just great seeing vintage comics to actually buy. It's a shame that there weren't more vintage toy dealers at the show. If it is affordable I might even take a stab at this show as a toy seller/dealer.
