The Best of Batman by Alan Brennert - with Rob Kelly!

Rob Kelly (of the Aquaman Shrine, Fire and Water Podcast, Hey Kids, Comics! and Ace Kilroy fame) drops by the Super Mates podcast to chat about one of our favorite writers...Alan Brennert! Brennert has written only a handful of comic tales, but most are bonafide classics, especially his Batman yarns! Check it out here!

Those Earth-2 stories were great. Love the original, real Huntress. Bob Layton's inks on Joe Staton's pencils in All Star was the best Staton's art ever looked, imo.

The worst thing about Crisis was what it did to the JSA.

    Looking forward to listening.

We definitely touch on Crisis. The JSA always seemed to get the shaft in DC's big mega-crossovers, starting with Crisis.

I really liked George Freeman's inks on Staton in the B&B #197 story, but I agree, he and Layton were a great team. Unfortunately, I believe they had a big falling out, way back when.

      Thanks for listening!

Yeah, I read something about Staton and Layton's falling out.

Staton did some nice inks on Sal Buscema and Trimpe's Hulk pencils before moving to DC.

BB 197 was the Catwoman story, wasn't it. Great issue. Lot of tragedy in that E2 Bat Family.

^Yep, that's it! Now THAT is a mature story. With no guts, rape or women with thongs splitting them in two.

Yeah, in some ways Batman found happiness on Earth-Two, in other ways...yeesh.

Hey, if you want to join FOAM, just send the Aquaman Shrine something Aqua-related to post. It's easy!
