Flash pilot getting good reviews from media

    www.comicbookmovie.com/fansites/JoshWildingNewsAndReviews/news/?a=101082

It was nice to read the enthusiastic responses to the Flash pilot. It sounds like it's going to be more upbeat than what DC/Warner usually serves up with its super heroes, which is a breath of fresh air to me.

I don't like that the retcon murder of Barry Allen's mother is included in the storyline. Is it absolutely necessary for every DC hero to need a death in his immediate family to become a hero?

But at least it sounds like the Flash will have some fun being the Flash, which will make a nice contrast to Arrow and Gotham.

That is good to know. I don't like the murder of Barry's mother either. Does every hero need a tragic motivator? Does every cop, every firefighter, every soldier have some dark life experience to propel them forward? No.

I liked Barry being the guy who had a normal childhood, and living parents. That's what separated him from the pack.

I believe Johns was going to actually have Barry save his mother from Reverse Flash and correct the time line in Flash Point before it became the engine to jump start the New 52. At least it seemed to be where he was going.

But adding the tragic deaths to Flash and Green Lantern's origins just becomes redundant next to Batman and Supeman's when those tragedies were part of the story going back to the beginning.

Lee, of course, cribbed the idea for Spider-man from both Superman and Batman, but tying Ben's murder to Peter's inaction was a great Rod Serling-type twist that separated and even elevated the idea.

But dropping the comic book influence from Barry's motivation to do the right thing with his powers is a loss to me. I think most comics readers of the silver and Bronze Age would say that reading about super heroes had some effect on their views of morality. That little nod to the fans by Schwartz, Kanigher and Broome may seem silly today, but it was a nice reinforcing touch back in the day.

If Johns had of restored order in Flash Point, the murder might have worked well as a storyline but not a lasting part of the origin.

Barry likely being a Foster child becomes very similar to the new Shazam origin that Johns also wrote.

DC might try to get a little more diversity in their origin gene pool.

Sometime in October. Evidently, the studios have been previewing the new pilots to the media.
