    Edgar Wright leaves Ant-Man film

Marvel and Wright jointly announced that Wright was leaving the project, due to "differences in their vision of the film." The company is closing in on a new director.

That's sad since that dude has spent so much time getting it off the ground. Marvel still plans to release this next year despite having to restructure the film with a new director. They aren't even planning on a pushed back date. This is going to be one of those epic train de-railments that slams into an orphanage with a chemical fire at 3AM during a hurricane. I don't see this ending well.
I almost had a psychic girlfriend but she dumped me before we met.

If anyone here believes in psychokinesis, please raise my hand.

Yeah, we heard about it this morning. The "geeks" at work were all disgruntled and I don't blame them. I like Edgar Wright and certainly he has a style that I can gel with and some how Marvel(WDS) certainly wanted to put reigns on him to keep his style within the "Marvel" realm. Adding spice to mix certainly helps keep the interest up but now I don't see this ending well also. Another rushed job by WDS to keep the money machine rolling. Looks like another Netflix viewing.

Yeah, that doesn't bode well for the film, but hey who knows, we might be surprised.

Mina is the world's first Paranormal Petsitter in the new middle-grade book series by Gary Buettner, MONSTER PETS, coming in FALL 2014 from EMBY KIDS. Spooky adventure that's perfect reading for kids 8-12

Other than Whedon, it doesn't seem Marvel respects directors a great deal. marvel's made good choices with directors, but it doesn't seem the studio feels it's necessary to retain them for sequels.

But , yeah, Wright had been working on this film since at least the summer Scott Pilgrim opened.

It'll be interesting if Marvel goes with a more traditional action director or seeks someone more like Wright. Either way, the choice will have to be a hired gun who'll lock in step with the current direction, if the movie is to make it's planned opening date.

Is it too late to have Hank Pym as the lead character and involve him in Age of Ultron? Surely that must be what this is about.

Supposedly Michael Douglas is playing Hank Pym.

I think Paul Rudd is a great choice for Scott Lang, but there's no way I'm buying Michael Douglas as Hank Pym. Catherine Zeta Jones as Janet Van Dyne? Absolutely. No way Douglas is a genius biochemist

I don't know about Whedon being treated that well. He was pretty quick to respond to this news with this:

In my mind Marvel has always treated artists with a lack of respect. Always.

But, I do think ALL these licensed movies are frustrating for film directors. They all involve multiple production companies with their own ideas and influence.

Maybe the suits at Artisan Entertainment thought they could use Ant Man to do a fun twist on the superhero genre - but then Iron Man was huge and the suits at Marvel thought "maybe Ant Man is the next Iron Man?!" No matter who thought what I think it's easy to see how these movies would be incredibly frustrating for creative people to work on them - with all the different bureaucracies, and each executive trying to put their imprint on the big project in some way.

Look at Raimi - he was given a fairly short leash, and the leash got shorter as the movies got more financially successful. It's backwards.

If it takes 8 years to get you work in do you really think you are going to have a job???

Edgar had plenty of time to get his version of the movie out and he did not. The world went by and Marvel discovered the secret of making a franchise and now he is tryng to work on his script. Marvel had all rights to pull him off the project and have the script writers to fit into there franchise than more power to them.

We I do tend to side with Disney/Marvel because I have stock in them, but then again 8 years is a long time to get a script out.

It's not Wright's fault. This is just the first crack in the Marvel veneer. I've made the point a few times in the Winter Soldier and IM3 threads about what they want as directors.

Honestly, until they signed Rudd, I was waiting for Wright to walk. He can do pretty much what he wants and isn't a dire position. The guy still makes movies, not studio products.

I've never seen anything to suggest that Wright was fired or that he didn't get his work in. I keep seeing that he quit because the studios kept changing his script. It even says so in that article you posted.

Apparently, the frontrunners to replace Wright are Adam McKay, Ruben Fleischer and Rawson Marshall Thurber.

Peyton Reed has been selected as the new Ant-Man director, with Adam McKay contributing to the script.

The official synopsis has also been released:

Armed with the astonishing ability to shrink in scale but increase in strength, con-man Scott Lang must embrace his inner-hero and help his mentor, Dr. Hank Pym, protect the secret behind his spectacular Ant-Man suit from a new generation of towering threats. Against seemingly insurmountable obstacles, Pym and Lang must plan and pull off a heist that will save the world.
