World's finest question: What teamp ups would you have liked to have seen?

With Batman VS Superman: Dawn of Justice being the first ever live action team up of Superman and Batman, I had an interesting question to ponder:

Of all the actors who have played Superman and Batman in live action, and had there been any other live team ups, which actors would you have liked to have seen paired up? You can choose more than one if you like. I have five, and they are as follows:

1: George Reeves & Adam West

2: Christopher Reeve & Adam West ( in terms of the Super Friends)

3: Christopher Reeve & Michael Keaton

4: Brandon Routh & Christian Bale

5: Henry Cavill & Christian Bale

For item #3, I remember reading a 3 issue World's Finest comic in college in 1990 by Steve Rude, and I was mentally able to see and hear the cast of the Superman Movie and Batman movie interacting with each other, even though realistically, they were a decade apart. It was especially fun to imagine Jack Nicholson interacting with Gene Hackman or Margot Kidder on a dinner date with Michael Keaton. And especially fun to imagine Reeve & Keaton interacting with each other.

I could also imagine the late George Reeves interacting with Adam West and Burt Ward when I read World's Finest Comics from the silver age.

    Anyway, those are my choices.

I think Superman IV was released in 87 while Batman came out in 89. Really just two years apart for those casts, but somehow it seemed a lot longer between the movies.

Keaton and Reeve were actually in a movie together, a fairly mediocre romantic-comedy called Speachless. Keaton was a political speech writer and Reeve playe a TV news guy.

While they are of different eras, I think Reeve and Bale would be my ultimate WF acting team.

Definitely Routh and Bale. Batman and Superman are supposed to be around the same age, and I think Routh's milqtoast Reeve impersonation( not his fault, all Singer's) and Bale's intensity would have really been terrific to play off eachother. Routh was given a raw deal by the director and WB for not giving him a chance at redemption. I think he'd have been a terrific Superman for the next decade or more. Bale had his moments, but ultimately the Nolan films were way more sci-fi than comic book. If he's the world's greatest detective, what the F did he ever detect? He had Lucious Fox do most of that for him. I think they dynamic between those two would have been explosive.

^ it would have been interesting to see what Routh could have done with the role if his performance hadn't been required to be an impersonation of Reeve. You're right, Scott, he didn't exactly get a fair shake.

I thought Reeve was great as Superman, and I appreciate his comedic performance as Clark, but I don't really care for that depiction of the character. To me, the persona of Clark was meant to blend in, not be noticable. He's camouflage. The fumbling, bumbling Kent is anything but unnoticeable. In the Reeve films, Clark is almost like a Charlie Chaplin or Buster Keaton character that speaks. The first sequence of Superman III could have been directed by Mack Sennett or Hal Roach. To me, it's fun to watch, but not really true to the character.

Now, I am a bit hypocritical because I really like George Reeves' portrayal of Clark, but it's just the opposite. His Clark is always the smartest, most capable guy in the room, which isn't right either.

After decades of reflection I have come to realize, much like Terry mentioned above, that the Chris Reeve Kent is total over-compensation. He got his role half right, and I think Donner didn't help much with his alter ego. I just think Bale/Routh was the best opportunity for two comtemporaries to share the screen in these iconic roles. If this were done in 1978-79 Batman would have had to be played by Burt Reynolds or maybe Redford. There's at least a ten year difference between Afleck and Cavill, and it's apparent from plot leaks that they are meant to be that far aprt in age. That's NEVER been the dynamic between the characters that I can remember.

I always thought a 1970's Batman could have been portrayed by Robert Fuller (Dr. Brackett on Emergency). He looked like Bruce Wayne and he had a Jack Webb like voice. I could have seen him playing the Batman that Denny O Neill and Neal Adams created in the comics of the time.
