My first comin-con!

I attended my first comics convention yesterday--Appleseed Comicon at 3 Rivers in Ft., Wayne, IN.

Very well-organized, intimate size. Mostly focused on comics, not ephemera, which I appreciated as a newbie. Lots of creators to chat with and some great deals.

I got to meet out own Tim Baron--a great guy, get his Mummator and the Conquerors, you'll love it. Discovered Battlepug and artist David Wachter.

Best of all, I met legend Jim Steranko--I chatted with him about 20min. (!) about pulps and he signed my Shadow paperback. He also participated in a panel/podcast--what a great raconteur. I would have loved to have some signed prints of his art, but sadly I am simply out of wall space.

Lol--not with my 2005 flip phone. But it was fun. There was a bit of cosplay, my friend wanted me to participate, but it was on short notice & I was not fully prepared.

That sounds like fun! You should check out The Akron Comicon/. This is it's third year and keeps getting bigger and better.

I forgot to mention something touching: There were some high-grade cosplayers there--Powergirl and her two accessories, Black Cat, a few Doctors who?, and DarkTroopers & a Stormtrooper.

But the best was a young man in a Captain America Hallowe'en costume--he looked good and was mobbed by little kids. He knelt down by them with his plastic shield posed for photo ops; they loved it.

It reminded me a bit of those mall pics that Plaid Stallions shares. I stood there with SpongeBob eyes and thought how great it was that he was willing to do that.
